What's a good backup VPN?

I’ll be in china for about a month, I already got astrill but does anybody have any suggestion on a good backup? (I see Letsvpn and Mullvad is recommended, so that’s certainly an option)

You can never know with china so I would just like to get at least one more in my arsenal before I leave for my trip.

I know there are v2rays and shadowsocks but I have no idea how to use them or how to navigate them so please don’t suggest them. I’d rather stick to something I know how to use, unless someone gives me a step by step process on how it works and how to make it work lol.

I suggest nomad esim bcz it had a hotspot. If you get the Asia plan, it’s foreign internet with the speed of the states. No connecting issues.

Simplylink,

It is Chinese, but it is reliable in my opinion.

Psiphon is free and always worked well for me when the paid ones kept going down.

GoFLY VPN on Android does the job fine. From there you can check SSHocean or others. All free.

V2rays and shadow stacks are a pain to setup unless you’re technically inclined or enjoy mucking around with that sort of things!

I personally use LetsVPN it’s easy to use one click on/off very reliable and affordable, it my primary for almost a year now!

Hope this helps!

I used both Astrill and LetsVPN in December, and I much prefer LetsVPN. It’s smoother and much cheaper

I’ve been using Proton VPN on my phone and it’s been working well. It’s one of the few where the free version is actually good

I went with Verizon International plan. Your phone works like your at home.

In HKD not USD

I will recommend www.paofu.cloud.

Was in china for 2 weeks and it works perfectly

Have you chosen an eSIM provider? If not, you can check Yesim, as you will get both an internet data package for China along with the free VPN installed in the app. So, it will be like a combined solution for you.

I have used Vee, it’s fast. Secure? Dunno. Btw you can also get HK sim tho

I concur. For example a Duck Talk one from HK (you can find out on Taobao), one year for below 200 RMB. volume is limited, but service will continue even when the President has an important meeting, which is exactly what you want.

(BTW phones sold in China normally don’t support esim, but typically have dual sim)

Currently in china rn for a holiday, $10 usd a month, i have had no issues with this vpn and its fast.

It’s not that bad, Wannaflix is decent. There might be better ones but that is what I use.

Let’s VPN is Shadowsocks protocol, lol. Just has a basic interface for those not as skilled in setting it up.

Same as WannaFlix, you’re just paying for the subscription.

v2rayNG and Shadowsocks are clients that can run plenty of different protocols, including Outline and various SSHocean protocols. Often can simply create by QR code.

I am also using it but it’s not as reliable as before. It’s impossible to have decent connection throughout a day and you need constantly to reconnect to be able to have some connection. For the price of 180$ it is totally unacceptable what they are offering now. I like its simplicity and router applet but their servers for China are not as good as before.

How’s the speed and reliability of wallpunch and the price?
