I live in Australia and want to watch Dutch TV Streaming services - is that do-able if I hook up a VPN to my AppleTV?
As long as the service has a server in the desired country I think it should be possible. Feel free for anyone else to correct me
Now you can. It used to be that AppleTV didn’t have VPN apps, so you had to connect your AppleTV to a VPN router. With tvOS 17, you can directly use a VPN app on your AppleTV and you’re there. This assumes you have tvOS 17 on your AppleTV and you have the right VPN for this.
Before you dive too far into this, TV/entertainment providers also know about VPN. They actively identify and block commercial VPN providers. It may work for a day, a month, or a year and then suddenly stop working.
When I first learned about VPNs, I thought oh this is a great solution until I started getting the “We’ve detected a VPN. Please turn it off and try again” messages.
For anyone seeking a comprehensive range of global channels, encompassing Dutch TV, movies, and shows, IPTV stands out as the optimal solution. Personally, I opted for premier-iptv dot shop to stay updated on my favorite Italian TV programs, while my girlfriend utilizes it for accessing French TV content. Undoubtedly, IPTV proves to be the superior choice for catering to our diverse entertainment preferences.
What is the app called?
Can I still stream local TV content when I use a VPN app - I know that iview for example can only be watched in Australia - they seem to know where I am- can’t watch it overseas.
There is no single app, because the API is open to all developers. You just have to go to the App Store and put in a search for VPN. You will see the list of the usual VPN providers. Which one is best, I don’t know, because I’ve never tried Australia to Netherlands.
That’s the easy part. When you turn on the VPN app, servers think you are in the Netherlands and you get Dutch content. When you turn off the VPN app, servers think you are in Australia. In a simple world, that’s all there is to it. In reality, there’s a bit more detail to it, namely that you have to find the right VPN provider for the task.
Don’t worry. NPO and RTL don’t seem to care about this - yet. And if/when they do, the better VPN providers have ways around this - just contact them.
Thanks for your help
