VPN use skyrockets in Russia during Ukraine invasion
A part of me is happy to know that Russians might be searching for the truth beyond what the state tells them, but a part of me knows that a lot of these VPN users are pro-war trolls trying to hide their Russian IPs.
I was confused by the title - which actor is VPN and which kind of missile is a Skyrocket
I thought VPN were a fighting group using sky rockets in Ukraine. I’m becoming such a confused old man
Russian here. The majority of Russian youth (and not only youth) have been using Instagram and Twitter a lot, and now that they are blocked, it’s not at all surprising that people download VPN. VPN is not illegal, and I’ve heard there was even some kind of a decree that citizens are allowed to use blocked apps and websites. A very consistent and logical decision to ban something and then claim that it is not forbidden to use it 
If there are indeed hundreds of thousands of VPN downloads happening then only a small percentage could be Russian trolls. Not everyone can be on FSB payrolls. My guess is that Russians are getting online and seeing for themselves what Putin’s been up to. It may also explain a number of the mystery fires suddenly all over Russia.
Fyi most of these aren’t people seeking for the truth, nor trolls. Most of them are just people who want to go on instagram.
Yeah, although its hard to use paid options due to visa/mastercard sanctions. I was able to pay for Mullvad VPN till october via direct bank wire transfer, but that ship has sailed, sadly.

I think my brain got a wire crossed but I was seriously trying to figure out who VPN was (like a segment of Russian or Ukrainian military) and what kind of missile skyrockets were.
