Hi everyone,
I was told that if need non-TS compatible devices to connect to TS, then I need to setup subnet routing and/or exit nodes. I have since done both on my Synology DS224+ NAS.
My goal is two fold:
-
Use my NAS as a VPN for when I’m doing some work on public wifi (edit: figured this out already, ty!)
-
Use it for my Xbox so that I can keep my router’s ports closed (don’t feel safe leaving them open).
Now that I set up subnet routing and exit node, what’s the next step in the process to accomplish the above?
Make sure you follow the manual install to get the latest tailscale installed on your synology

Did you test to see if its meeting your needs?

Tailscale isnt gonna meet your needs to force all your xbox traffic through tailscale to get around not having to open ports on your router
xbox multiplayer already has issues with NAT/routers, attempting to add tailscale to the mix is adding even more complications.
If you dont want to open ports on your router, just turn off UPnP on your main internet router. However be prepared with the issues you are gonna run into if you are trying to do online gaming
I figured out how to use the TS as a VPN for my iPhone and Mac, so I’m all set there Ty!
With regards to Xbox, I have UPnP off already and I’m manually forwarding the ports. It works good. Just wanted to know if it can be done via TS so I can close those ports that I opened.
TS isnt gonna add value to your xbox
