Upgrade VPN gateway

Hi folks,

I have been assigned to upgrading a VPN gateway from Basic to Standard to improve the latency. Unfortunately its not possible to do this either via Powershell or the portal and thereby have to deploy a new one.

Have anyone tried this before? I wonder if i can deploy a new VPN gateway and use the same Public IP address. It has to communicate through a PFsense Firewall and wonder if i reuse the settings i dont have to configure that even further?

Kind of new into this V-net thing. Hope some of you can help!

You’ll have to delete the existing gateway and redeploy. Unfortunately there is no way to upgrade afaik. The same Public IP cannot be re-used since you can only use dynamic ip for any sku vpn gateway.

Correct, there is currently no way to upgrade from Basic to the VpnGw SKUs.

Why can’t you use the same public IP? I know its easy to create a new one just curious on why.
