Hey guys mulling this one over.
I have a data plan in a country that has data buckets on their plans. Standard plan for example w/ 10gb of unlimited speed data, then a throttle, but it has unlimited other data bucked such as facebook, WhatsApp, Instagram (social media) or music (spotify, apple music).
So for example network carriers that give unlimited whatsapp data or airplanes where you also get unlimited social network data would be my use case.
Is there a way to use a VPN service/software/config to route/mask all my data to show up as being one of the mentioned services? (tunnel all data to show up as facebook usage for example?)
Apologies if this is not the right subreddit.
Thanks!
No, chances are they are doing this by looking at your DNS request. Using a VPN would actually hinder that.
Well, it depends on the specifics of how exactly are they checking what site you are visiting.
If they simply use DPI to check the SNI string in clienthello (which is, usually, the case) then something like VMess, VLESS or Trojan protocols would tool them. But if they use IP-based techniques like setting DNS server in such way to always return specific IPs for social networks, then it won’t help (but that is quite rare).
Hi! Did you ever find a working way that doesn’t slow down your connection significantly?
No lol it works. I used to have an app but it was slow
Obviously it works; however, they have capped each SNI at their own speed threshold. For example, web.whatsapp.com has been given about 1 megabit per second, which is about ~100 kilobytes per second. This is fine for message sending. You should use a good SNI like zoom.us since its cap threshold is higher (almost no limit - however, it is capped by the service speed threshold).
There maybe a method to bypass the service’s speed threshold I don’t know, to maybe get 1 Gbps per se.
rip. i’ll try to find a good one for us
