I’ve been using a VPN for a few years. It seems like more and more websites are either blocking the VPN IPs completely or I need to repeatedly solve reCAPTCHA. All banking/financial institutions block the VPN completely (somewhat comical as VPNs are supposed to keep you secure on public networks), many of the websites I shop at either block or restrict via reCAPTCHA, google blocks or restricts… I’d guess 75% of the time I either need to change my VPN IP address or turn it off completely.
Is everyone having similar experiences or is there a simple solution to this?
Ok, so first of all… The only VPNs that keep you’re data safe across the internet are VPNs that connect you directly to the destination - like your office VPN.
Eg. Say your shipping a gift to a friend and don’t want people to know what it is, so you wrap it in black paper (that’s your data being encrypted by the VPN), it then get courier delivered to your friend (that’s the internet)… But 3/4 of the way through the route, they take the black paper wrapping off (you data left the VPN), and now gets shipped in the exact same format if was when you started… And everyone can see from that point to your friends house that you bought them a big old embarassing sex toy.
I guess that Cloudflare has settings that allow the website owners to enable security settings to block VPNs (altogether), require captcha or not block.
What works for me is to use the vpn with Firefox, then add the browsec extension to Firefox. For websites that block the vpn, turn on browsec, voila. The Netherlands server on browsec has been working for me.
I don’t have the solution, but I have the experience. Very frustrating as the VPN is needful (I’m in China and can’t access most western sites without the VPN).
It’s also frustrating what types of sites block me from access if I’m using a VPN (I was blocked by a chess website today). In the case of the chess website, I presume it offers variable pricing by region and that’s why they are blocking the VPN (I could be wrong), but it’s still frustrating that a simple game site is being difficult like this.
I suppose the “solution” is to tell your VPN service provider (if you have one) which of their IPs are being blocked so that they can swap out useless IP addresses quickly.
Only SOME of the financial institutions I use block or discourage the use of VPNs. I have a VPN router which is on 24/7 and I’ve only encounter a few times where I had to disconnect in order to access something. But it is becoming more prevalent unfortunately
Thanks, received. The one I use also started offering dedicated Ips (for additional cost of coarse) . I don’t know much but just thought it was funny to go from having my one IP, to multiple VPN Ips, back to one IP again - only this time with a VPN. I’d assume it drastically helps with this BS. I might give them a try when my current subscription expires.
