Self hosted alternative to hamachi and some stupid questions

Hi everyone, I’m looking for a self-hosted alternative to Hamachi, my friends and I use it mainly to play together by creating LAN servers, so I was thinking of openvpn, wireguard, what do you recommend? then what is the difference of having this vpn server with me and my friends connected and a hamachi network. What would they be able to do connected to my VPN? access my server? all my instances on the local network? how does it work ? I know it doesn’t work like that with hamachi but I don’t know where to look to find this information. I’m sure it’s a stupid question but I’ve never “played” with vpn/proxy etc

thanks for the help

Wireguard. It’s daunting at first to fully understand what you need to set for the config but once you get one working, the rest is easy.

There’s also tailscale if you want to just sign into a web site and get everything connected that way. Headscale is the self hosted version of it.

Basically VPN is what you’d need, which hamachi essentially is doing.
