Recommendations for US VPN?

I’m tired of the constant “this page is not available in your country”. It’s not all the time, but it’s often enough that I find it very annoying. I’ve tried a number of free VPNs to be able to access a number of things–US shopping websites, US streaming services (looking at you HBO), local news, etc–and they’re all awful. Does anyone have a paid VPN service that they recommend?

I’ve used ExpressVPN for years and have no complaints. Have tested alternatives to see if I was missing out on anything and always ended up back with ExpressVPN.

I have an annual subscription with Nord VPN and it works really well. I usually let it lapse since I don’t use it daily and Nord panics and sends really great renewals offers :joy:

Have you tried tunnel bear? It’s free for a small amount of data and I use it for the rare occasion I need to access a US website. Otherwise something like NordVPN will be your best bet.

VPNs do have some limitations. I have a computer set up back in the US that I can remote into for certain things. It’s probably a bit overkill for most people, and not useful for some things, but I found that I use it all the time.

I use protonvpn. I actually setup a rule on my router that routes any US destination traffic through the VPN automatically

I use https://www.smartdnsproxy.com/ every Thanksgiving for the parade, then cancel afterwards

I’ve had an annual subscription to Strong VPN since I moved to the UK in 2011.

https://strongvpn.com/

Really reliable and secure, and their IP addresses tend not to get flagged up by services like the big streaming N one as VPNs. Love them!

Mullvad. After looking at extensive research from https://thatoneprivacysite.xyz/ I decided it had the best mix of privacy and price. Been using it for years on up to 5 devices (phones, PC) at a time for €5/month. Works very well and supports split tunneling (helpful if you’re using it with a PC that connects to network devices). I can’t say it will work for streaming from the US as I don’t do that, but it works very well for other purposes.

I’ve had no issues with VPN Unlimited thus far…

I’ve been using Ghost VPN. It seems to work okay, but I don’t have anything to compare it to. Since the company I worked for is US-based, I asked if they would cover the cost, and they did! So, regardless of which VPN provider you choose, it may be worth seeing if your employer will cover the cost.

I use tunnel bear. I never go over the free monthly data.

Cyberghost works great for me. Tried express, nord etc. and I found the best luck with cg.

Seconding ExpressVPN. Used it for years with no issue (but had to cancel my subscription last year when tightening my budget)

Also just adding onto ExpressVPN, I use it for so much more than US/UK but a lot of Canadian stuff and in other countries when I travel for work.

Just had an instance of finding out one of my UK bank accounts is inaccessible online when out of the country (odd thing to make inaccessible) and quickly dropped my expressVPN in the UK and it worked flawlessly.

The subscription is annoying it but so worth it in a quick need of accessing something

This is what I use as well.

I also use Nord VPN and find it consistently has offers, also it participates with UK cashback sites like Quidco, last time I renewed managed to get a promo from Nord and stack with Quidco and an offer from my credit card, pretty close to 'nil cost in the end.

Second TunnelBear - I have had a subscription for almost a decade, love it. Reliable and easy UI.

Pretty good idea provided someone is on hand back in the states to power it back up if something goes wrong.

Edit: issue resolved, thank you
