So I just started using ProtonVPN Plus yesterday and am having fantastic results with it. I already had Cloudflare 1.1.1.1. + WARP installed. Obviously WARP and ProtonVPN won’t work with one another.
But I’d like to keep 1.1.1.1. on as a fallback when for when need to turn off ProtonVPN on occasion. Testing the speed with both on everything seems to be working flawlessly but I’m curious if there’s any interaction between the two?
Or does ProtonVPN just override the DNS settings that 1.1.1.1. sets?
They are two different and separate services. If you disconnect from ProtonVPN you should be able to connect to 1…
Proton has its own DNS settings, not customizable, and kick in when you connect via the app, i.e. through the VPN tunnel. Should not mess with the configuration you have with 1…
Proton VPN had a custom DNS in settings, using Cloudflare DNS + Proton VPN and then switch to Cloudflare DNS + WARP when you turn off Proton VPN, or you can change DNS to Cloudflare in OS and Router so you only need to turn on Cloudflare to use its DNS + WARP, when you turn off Clouflare its DNS is still in use since it is configured at the OS or Router level
That makes sense. Currently on MacOS which is missing settings compared to Windows/Linux so I’ll have to check the custom ProtonVPN settings on those machines later.
On MacOS having Cloudflare DNS and ProtonVPN seems to be working well and can switch to WARP when if I have to turn off ProtonVPN.
