Do you guys think that Microsoft will remove games previously downloaded with the VPN trick? I don’t think I will ever purchase games from another region out of fear that my account will be banned, but I am worried but the previous Argentina & Turkey Game codes that I redeemed in the past few months. Do you think we will be able to keep these games or will the change just affect future purchases? I asked this question on another subreddit and I am hoping to get more input here. Thanks in advance!!
That would to be too harsh,i don’t think they’ll remove games redeemed that way from the library.
They even send receipt acknowledging the transaction post redeeming the codes,so 99.99% they won’t.
Fraudulently misrepresenting your region to purchase from other regions stores was already a violation of the Service Agreement in many countries and a violation of the Xbox Community Guidelines. If you read the summery of the Service Agreement changes coming into affect Sept 30th has nothing to do with this. The section of the service agreement Section 6 and the wording is the exact same as it was before. It just seems Microsoft is not proactively doing something about it
This is the line that is in section 6 of many countries Microsoft Services Agreement
You agree not to access or use material or Services which are illegal or not licensed for use in the country from which you access or use such material or Services, or to conceal or misrepresent your location or identity in order to access or use such material or Services.
That was taken from the 2023 service agreement in Canada. Many countries have that same line. Notability it is missing from some coutries like US, Great Britian, and France are just a few I checked
Section 6 of the community standards could also apply Xbox Community Standards | Xbox
Try to circumvent regional content restrictions
Also the Microsoft Code of Conduct says https://www.microsoft.com/en-ca/servicesagreement#3_codeOfConduct
Don’t engage in activity that is fraudulent, false or misleading
Don’t engage in activity that is harmful to you, the Services, or others
If they wanted to suspend your account and take all your stuff away they could already do it under the existing guidelines However I think this is unlikely as you could have been on vacation or deployed in the military and bought those games legitimately in those countries.
You won’t buy from another region out of fear of being banned, but you’ll redeem codes with a VPN from another region? What’s the difference? MS knows what you’re doing either way and buying codes is not paying the devs.
You can still buy from all countries that have gift cards. Just got to be smart about it. It it works cause I did it yesterday after not being able to all month. On an account that showed the region error. Just have to exclusively be visible in the region you want to buy from with the account you want to buy with for 7 consecutive days. On a VPN that isn’t known. That’s actually the hardest part.
Note this method will only work as long as they don’t simply blacklist consoles. They have all the data to do that, so the current setup is just the final warning shot. If we keep buying they might feel the need to actually ban accounts or worse, consoles that used accounts that violated the terms. So do it at your own risk.
If they could, I don’t think they would. That’s an awful lot of work for a small benefit. Oftentimes people buy games cheap like that that they wouldn’t have otherwise bought at full cost anyways, and so many games bought like that people have already finished and won’t go back to, so it’s not like people are just going to buy most of these games again at full price. Banning an account means possibly losing a customer too. It just seems like a lot of work with high risk and low rewards, but companies have done dumber things I suppose.
That’s not what he’s saying. He’s concerned about losing the games he already redeemed from different regions using the VPN.
How is not paying the devs? Asking without offense just ignorance
Imagine not being able to read. … .
Thanks for the advice! i’m way too paranoid to purchase games like this now. I’ll stick to the Microsoft store lol
Because those codes are usually promotional codes that get the dev no money. It’s buying unofficial codes from unofficial sellers. The only people making money are the sellers.
Stay in school buddy. You’ll get there one day.
So every game have a number of free codes they launch for promotional purposes? And neither the publishers or developers get money? Because there is also companies like Amazon that give away codes with prime and this end up in this third party sellers also. Does are also not pay to the developers?
There’s a difference between promotional codes that are created as free promotion and codes that are bought by Amazon to be given away. One involves the developer actually getting money.
Review and giveaway keys flood those sites despite the fact that buying and selling codes is against TOS. Selling codes for profile is against TOS. Nobody cares. Same with buying out of region where you’re paying pennies on a dollar for a game. That’s taking money from developers.
I see now I understand better, so is better to buy the codes from the sites that allow people to sell the Amazon codes since that way atleast developers got pay
