Proton VPN has more than doubled its network size – but does it matter? | Tom’s Guide

I get speeds that are fast enough I often don’t notice I am on a VPN, speed wise.

Gigabit connection here.

My internet connection is around 125 megabit and with secure core and stealth protocol I get around 116 megabit. I have nothing to complain about considered I currently living in Mexico and use servers over Italy and Swiss.

TL;DR: In a rare exception to Bettridge’s Law: Yes.

Has it been slow for anyone else recently?
Using it from Germany on Windows, Mac, Iphone and despite me recently upgrading my internet I sometimes am sub 1Mbit/s to up to 10is Mbit/s
Any tipps?

Yes, I wish they’d allow you to pick various places in the Midwest. All they have is Chicago.

I can’t, for the life of me, get any streaming service to work over protonvpn. I have tried dozens of servers in different countries and everytime inget blocked by the streaming service.

There are other VPNs that just work. It doesn’t matter which server I connect to with those providers.

Maybe proton should put more work into this area, now that they have the server numbers and the speed right.

I’d really like them to allow picking which US state.

Edit: My bad, this was probably added a while ago, and I missed it.

I get 46 by connecting to Frankfurt and 154 by connecting to Helsinki, no problem here (Finland, 300 Mbit mobile connection).

I use it to download Linux ISOs and constantly get more than 50Mbit/s

Working fine here, 391Mbps NL → DE

I tried it last year and it was really inferior to nord/surfshark speed-wise

Yes! For me, it has been. I’ve had to disconnect it quite a few times. Been facing this for the past 20 days or so.

Not sure what you mean. You can choose a specific state. For instance I always choose a server in New York.

Proton VPN doesn’t have all of the US states, but there are about a dozen to pick from. If you want a specific extra one then add it on User Voice?

I actually swapped from Nord because of how slow it is. I normally get 500Mbits easy on proton

I am a visionary subscriber and I tried specifically to stream disney plus. I used the proton vpn app on iOS to connect to a plus server that has the triangle next to it which is supposed to mean that streaming is supported. When I open the disney plus app it says „something went wrong“ and doesn’t show any content. I tried multiple different VPN servers and always get the same result.

Now, I also tried competing VPN providers. that experience went as follows on the same device: I used the iOS app of the competition to connect to any server - didn’t matter which one - I open the disney plus app and was greeted with the region specific content.

So, it definitely has nothing to do with any misconfiguration on my end. The only thing that changed was the app of the VPN service. It’s definitely something on protons end thats the problem.

I’d be happy to switch to proton’s vpn but surfshark is always faster for me on tasks that only require light masking. If i find a difference i might report back

I have the same issue.
