Norton scan seems bad

so i downloaded a game and like all the file i download from google i scan it with Norton, after i scanned this game and Norton scanner told me is ok i launched the game but windows blocked it, so is windows that is exagereted or is Norton that doesn’t scan well?

Norton is known for being really bad. I recommend you switch AVs and see if it still detects it. You could also see by using virustotal and looking at how many detections it has and which AVs are detecting it. Please reply with the link to the virustotal results under your post so the professionals can review it and tell you what they think.

Hello,

Are you able to upload the specific file it flagged to VirusTotal and share the link? And what was the prompt from Windows Security? I assume it was a SmartScreen pop up since Defender doesn’t offer realtime protection with another AV installed.

i saw some adds about an antivirus called Northvpn and it seems a good antivirus what about it?

i checked and Windows blocked it because of the unknown creator and i already played the game rn but i’ll check on VirusTotal tyyy

Please use Bitdefender free or Kaspersky Cloud free. Don’t use unknown names. It’s either as bad as Avast or actual malware itself.

NordVPN is not an antivirus, it’s a VPN. All it does is it allows you to change your virtual location, so you can fool websites like Netflix to think you are in different country. It also conceals your IP address, but in reality it doesn’t make you any safer. Contrary to the bullshit you might hear in ads from YouTubers etc.

I’ve personally never heard of it, so I’m not sure. The most recommended AVs I see here are Kaspersky if you’re outside of the USA, and Bitdefender. You can also stick with just Microsoft Defender if you’re careful enough. Also, VPNs are completely different than antiviruses.

You did run it? Do a scan with Malwarebytes asap.

Although what exactly do you mean by “Windows blocked it”? You mean something like this? Or like this? Or this? Or was it something different?
