Nordvpn app unable to login

I know there are couple of posts having the same issue, but none of them are solved.

I have contacted support and now my ticket was escalated to senior tech as they stated.

I am here to further research and maybe learn from those who had the same issue and somehow solved it.

nordvpn app kept giving me login error “we hit an authentication error”.

I (with nordvpn support) have tried:

diagnose.exe to reset

whitelist from AV

outbound and inbound firewall rule for the three nordvpn .exes

changing dns for the adapter (actual and TAP)

changing default browser (from chrome → edge → now firefox)

reinstall

even revert back any windows updates prior the issue.

none of these solved my login issue


not only the “Log in” button that failed, the “Create Nord Account” also failed to function, with the same error but titled “Sign Up failed”

# I am positive my acc is not accessed by more than 6 devices

# the browser extension works well tho, the login button redirects me to login api of Nordvpn

Hi, I hope people who have the same issue can follow this step since it solved the issue (at least on my end)

*windows 10*

make sure the app is closed

  1. Click on the Start button, then select Settings > Network & Internet > Status > Network reset.
  2. On the Network reset screen, select Reset now > Yes to confirm (Keep in mind, this also resets Wi-Fi networks and passwords, VPN, and APN settings that you’ve used before)
  3. let your PC / laptop restart
  4. after restart, go to diagnostic.exe → reset app
  5. wait till the app opens after the reset, then try to log in

same exact issue!

Spend hours with a relatively knowledgeable tech support.

spare yourself the headache going through all the many possibilities.

what worked was complete uninstall and deletion of all NordVPN related folders (%appdata%, and other stuff) and install an older version of NVPN.

BUT: The app updates automatically and I haven’t found a way to prevent that. And after that, same issue again: Login failed + authentication error

What DOES WORK is: Connecting manually to NordVPN, following this tutorial:

It’s a pain in the ass, and none of the actual app features are present (kill switch, …)

you basically create a VPN connection that you sign in manually with NVPN credentials.

But, if you should fail at first, after following all these many steps (it says wrong parameter or something like that), you gotta go to device manager and delete ALL Wan network adapters, and after that scan for hardware changes, and then restart your PC.

NordVPN is aware of this issue and they said to wait for an app update.

That said, if they don’t fix it very soon, I gonna switch to another provider.
