Need help setting up nordVPN via openVPN

Hello!
I’m currently trying to setup nordVPN via openVPN and so far all the tuorials i’ve found have been on ubuntu, and that doesn’t quite translate well to doing it on Solus it seems. (Might just be me though…)

Anyone here using nordvpn and have it figured out?

UPDATE : I had to install openVPN Client from the software center to make it work

Have you tried the tutorial on Norn VPN’s webpage? I followed the parts i needed and it worked perfectly. I used the Network Manager section, down the page a bit. I didn’t have to do the install Network Manager part, so I skipped to step 5. Download the OpenVPN Configuration File Package, and goto Best VPN server locations: View the full list | NordVPN click on the “Recommended Server” button, then click the “Show Available Protocols” link and it will help you with which server to select. Use that Config file from the .zip to setup the VPN.

If you do not want to download all of the config files in the .zip, just goto Best VPN server locations: View the full list | NordVPN and click on the “Recommended Server” button, then click the “Show Available Protocols” link. There you can download only the one config file you need.

I am on Gnome Solus, but that shouldn’t matter.

You will have to setup multiple VPN’s if there are different VPN servers you wish to connect to. But NornVPN works fantastic with Linux. Good upload and download speeds, even at peak times.

Download the ovpn files (https://downloads.nordcdn.com/configs/archives/servers/ovpn.zip), unzip, go into network manager, add new vpn, click on import from file, pick the ovpn file you want, fill out user/pass, rinse and repeat.

Thx, ill check it out!

I just end up getting this error: https://imgur.com/a/vARKs Any ideas?

Don’t do the Cisco option.

I import from file, then I get the error

I am not at my home PC and cannot check right now =/

No worries! I appreciate you taking the time anyways, so thanks

Okay, I am at my PC now.

I used Firefox to goto the NordVPN website @ Best VPN server locations: View the full list | NordVPN. I pressed the “Recommended Server” button.

I selected the “Show available Protocols” link

Downloaded the config for the “OpenVPN TCP”

Went to Network Manager - then settings

clicked the + button beside VPN

Import from file–point at downloaded config file

On screen after that, I entered user name and password where it asks for it.

Disabled iPV6 (I’ve just heard it can leak your IP address. someone more knowledgeable can explain it maybe?)

Exit the config screen

Clicked the toggle switch to turn on the VPN

Head back to Nord vpn website and it will say protected at the top in green if its working. Unprotected in red if its not.

There was a bug with OpenVPN when you open the network manager from the tray icons. It may still around here, so be sure to go throught the settings.
