I’ve been waiting for this for quite a while now. Bought a yearly subscription this morning. It’s too early to tell for sure, but it’s certainly been as smooth of a setup as Proton VPN has been for me.
It’s good to have a service that I care about given I also want to support Firefox/Mozilla Corporation monetarily. Fingers crossed it performs well!
EDIT: For people coming here just to say “subscribe to Mullvad directly since it’s a white-labeled Mullvad”, I get your point, but 1) I want to support Mozilla, and 2) it’s actually slightly cheaper per month for me to buy a yearly plan with Mozilla VPN than to go to Mullvad directly (see my comment here).
Before I create a post (as I was about to do until I saw yours), do you have any feedback about the built-in adblocker? I use AdGuard, which is great, but as it also uses the VPN functionality that means it won’t be useable at the same time as Mozilla VPN.
So, I’m coming from Proton VPN, which also has ad and tracker blocking. I already use uBlock Origin on Firefox so I don’t see ads while browsing. The best way it helped was in those in-game chests where you have to watch an ad to get your daily prize etc. With Proton VPN, it just sat for 20 or 30 seconds trying to connect to the ad network then would give up and just give me the chest.
(Side-note: I don’t feel bad about this given I pay for my games, I don’t feel they need the extra $0.02 revenue for forcing me to watch a loud annoying ad where the X button is mostly hidden. But I digress.)
I just tested now on Mozilla VPN with all toggles (ad-, tracker-, and malware-blocking) enabled, and happily had the same thing happen. So on that front it seems to be working just as well.
But yeah I’ve only been using this for half a day now, I don’t have much else to share at this point unfortunately so maybe someone else can chime in with more details…
Went to check this, and it looks like it’s using Mullvad’s network, which is reputable.
The pricing situation, however, is a litle odd. While Mozilla’s monthly pricing is significantly more expensive than Mullvad’s ($10/month vs 5€/month, respectively), exchange rates mean Mozilla’s annual pricing is actually a little cheaper ($5/month versus 5€/month).
Pricing ← This puts Mullvad’s pricing at 5 euro per month. For me in Australia, current exchange rates put that at $8.22 AUD per month.
I just subscribed to Mozilla VPN for $90 AUD per year. That equates to $7.50 per month.
So this is actually cheaper than going to Mullvad directly since Mullvad doesn’t offer discounts for yearly deals.
(Though the same can’t be said for if I went monthly with Mozilla VPN. It’s the same price monthly for Mullvad, but double the price monthly for Mozilla VPN. Which is why I went with the yearly option hah.)
Ah, my bad. I also use uBlock Origin on my Mac, but I was wondering about its performance on iOS. I take it you use Windows and/or Android, but from what you say I’m presuming its performance might be similar on iOS. Thanks.
