The ExpressVPN app upon opening never shows, I can see it in the menu bar. It constantly shows “Location: Unknown” and after 5-10 seconds crashes completely. The program/client never shows up, I just see it open in the dock and the menu bar, then it crashes.
This TEMPORARILY will fix itself if I uninstall and reinstall, however, I have done this 4 times now, and it ALWAYS starts crashing constantly the next day. I have restarted my MacBook, updated to the latest firmware, used the ExpressVPN uninstall “command line” method, and it keeps doing this.
I’m at a loss. I’ve been using this VPN for years, and have NEVER had this issue. I cannot keep reinstalling to just have it work for one day, it’s a pain.
I found out the fix I believe. So… it revolves around the fact that I turned everything off for “Login Items” on macOS.
ExpressVPN has software/daemons that start as soon as you login. Apparently, I had disabled ExpressVPN’s “login item.” ExpressVPN has a daemon that’s supposed to start and run in the background all the time I believe.
I came to this conclusion because I remembered that on Windows whether or not ExpressVPN is actually open, if you open Task Manager, it has a background process always running.
Upon turning the ExpressVPN login item back on, I stopped having this issue. Knock on wood.
this is still happening after todays update OS 14.1.1 (23B81) and express Version 11.45.0 (78843) … Runs once and never runs again, seems like a process keeps being killed.
