Kaspersky blocking Steam, Discord, Whatsapp and other well known applications

As the title says. I’ve noticed Whatsapp not being able to load media and Discord didn’t start at all and just showed a broken update screen. Browser version of both wasn’t affected. A few days later, Steam downloads and cloud syncs started to fail and I’ve noticed strange behaviour in other well known apps.
As soon as I quit Kaspersky everything worked again. I’ve never had this issue before and it appeared out of the blue. None of the apps are blocked anywhere in the app and are listed as trusted apps in the Firewall and App Security.

Has anyone else experienced this? Is there a fix?

You could tr, to reset kaspersky settings. But i am using it for years 0 problems

I’ve had zero problems with Kaspersky for 20 years. I believe the issue is likely something else. I use Steam, Discord, Blizzard, Uplay, Xbox for PC, Amazon Games, GOG, and a few others. Kaspersky optimizes my gameplay and minimizes background usage while playing, as it’s designed to do. I wouldn’t worry about it reading HTTPS sites personally. HTTPS is a digital signature that proves the authenticity of the domain/owner and offers different levels of warranty per certification level, like V1, V2, and V3. Some domain providers include this option in a package. Personally, I prefer Verisign, Komodo, and a few others, as they are used by major corporations and companies. For browsing the web, HTTPS is beneficial. It guarantees that the owner is legitimate and values you as a person by offering protection on their domain. :+1:
The way I put it is, would you buy a car without insurance ? Hence, https, in my opinion.

There are a few things you could try to resolve the issue. First, clear your temporary files, cache, and cookies. Run a defragmentation, and flush your DNS by opening the command prompt and typing:

ipconfig /flushdns

Then hit enter. Restart your PC and check for updates. Ensure your GPU is updated if you have one. Also, check your thermal paste—funny as it sounds, it can make a difference. The latency you described could be due to multiple factors. I always try to analyze the issue primarily, but without having your PC in front of me, it’s challenging to pinpoint the exact cause. However, I can confidently say that I doubt it’s Kaspersky.

I’ve never had any issues either for the past 3 years. I did turn off the web protection because I didn’t want Kaspersky to read my https traffic. Only issue I can imagine is some SSL issues that just started because a certificate expired. I have no idea what else could cause this. I’ll try the reset and update here

Kaspersky did the same for me. I’ve never had any issues with it.

I’d say ssl is almost a requirement. I wouldn’t pay or login on an insecure site. I know that. But I didn’t want to have kaspersky as a mitm. I know which sites I visit and which ones I shouldn’t. I have a dns blocker in place (similar to pihole) and never ever would I download a sus file to my pc where kaspersky would alert me anyway.

HTTPS ensures that the data exchanged between browser and website is encrypted, providing privacy and integrity. Saying t that HTTPS guarantees the authenticity of the domain/owner is somewhat simplified. HTTPS ensures the encryption of data in transit, but the actual level of verification of the owner depends on the type of certificate (DV, OV, EV).

Thermal paste might actually be the issue then. My cpu is heating up more than usual by 10+ degrees. I should replace the thermal paste asap anyway.

Not sure if you mean the thermal paste in the gpu tho. I might have to replace that as well, but I bought the card a year later, new, so it should still be fine I’d say.

I thought dns could be an issue, but why does it work again as soon as I close kaspersky? As far as I know it doesn’t have a dns service apart from the ability to set dnssec server which I have turned off as I have already configured my two servers in the network settings. I’ll flush the cache anyway and see what it does.

Thanks for you reply!

What’s the problem with reseting kasperky entirely and trying over again.

I did that. Didn’t work
