Jio is blocking proxy websites

This is outrageous. They have blocked hide.me, vpnbook.com and Web Proxy Free. Sometimes using https solves the issue. But my question is what’s next to be banned? They have already banned porn along with normal websites like behance.net and collegehumor.com. This is moral policing.

EDIT 1— I’m so glad that some good folks in media are reporting this issue. This indeed does violates net neutrality rules.

Reliance Jio may be blocking VPN and proxy websites in India

Reliance Jio Seems to Be Blocking Proxy Websites in India

EDIT 2— Some of the comments are suggesting different VPN apps. I really appreciate that but just to make it clear, this whole thing is not about VPN or proxy, it never was. It has always been about internet censorship and net neutrality for me. There are some countries where using VPN is outlawed, we definitely DO NOT want to be one of them.

The Internet Freedom Foundation is now aware of this issue and they have created a form to report it. Please go there and report your ISP if they are blocking any VPN or proxy websites.

EDIT 3— Issue resolved partially! All thanks to The Internet Freedom Foundation and various news organizations for their attention into this matter. It appears like they have unblocked at least some of the above-mentioned VPN and proxy websites sometime during the past month. Behance.net also appears to be working again. Unfortunately, comedy website CollegeHumor is still blocked, so is the proxy site Web Proxy Free.

This is getting really oppressive. Not right now, but surely headed towards it

ffs, I have to use VPN every time before visiting any of these and sometimes I just skip altogether using mobile data for this purpose.

In some days, they will have a whitelist of websites you can visit instead of a blacklist.

yeah. as someone who had experienced blockage of al jazeera website on reliance broadband… this is not at all surprising to me.

i totally expect jiofiber to have an exhaustive blocklist that includes not only file sharing websites but also news sources critical of the bosses.

arseholes lift the ban! I’m running out of mallu bhabhi videos.

yes they have blocked proxysite .com

too bad i am not a heavy user but used the above site for watching youtube content from US/UK. Thats it. not going to recharge again.

This is unacceptable!

Q: What can be done about it tho?

They are limiting speed on some websites and apps, if I open a non jio app I’ll get less speed, if I trouble shoot from my jio app. Suddenly I’ll get a 4 or 5 Mbps speed. I complained about it to the cc. All they do is ask for 120 or 180 days and close the complaints. I also found them limiting speeds after we reach 60 or 70% of the data limit. Does anyone has same issues?

Use Tor browser in PC to unblock all sites, and use a free VPN app (like VPN Hub) when browsing in your phone.

Has anyone observed that their Jio TV streams better when on Jio network than any other network.

I can confirm that this happens! Don’t you think that this is also incorrect?

Hi, we have created a webform to report this issue: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSfW1hG9msgaILOLk1EMEY3V3UDJIZlTJPRoxgkIO7pUzuZ2aA/viewform

Here is a link to a short statement promising further steps by us towards a remedy : https://internetfreedom.in/p/7b67b1a5-ef3c-43e2-8378-03549e17e202/

Try lethean.io. its a decentralized VPN marketplace. Its still new but pretty soon full VPN solution will be out in a few months. For now u can use browser plugins and u can pay by the hour.

Decentralized so it would be hard to block it.

Assuming you’re on Android, you should be able to work around this by setting your own DNS servers (use google or open DNS). Try this app: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.burakgon.dnschanger&hl=en_US

Edit: This app, though popular, has a sketchy privacy policy: http://burakgon.com/privacy.html

Use a paid VPN like ipvanish, it can circumvent most detection systems

Folks to us this both a net neutrality and a privacy violation. We have created a quick form to crowdsource more information on this to make it manageable for us to understand the extent of this problem and get reports for further action and remedy. Please fill this in, and ask others to do so as well. https://goo.gl/forms/jAhCX0wq1uWStR5T2

I contacted Jio customer service last night on app chat and they told me it’s being done on government’s order. He said that they have been instructed by government and they must comply. But later today I checked for any such news but couldn’t find anything.

We are in!

Will a VPN like ExpressVPN - negate all of this…?

Last night I chatted with Jio customer care. They told me that this was because of government order. Government has ordered them to block these VPN websites and they had to comply. Are you sure that VPN is not banned by DoT?

protonVPN works with jio. I can confirm that. protonVPN comes under Swiss jurisdiction so safe I suppose.
