"It's always on Linus Tech Tips" aside, is TunnelBear actually good?

Realizing lately I really should get a paid VPN, I didn’t realize TB is only $5/month for Unlimited data on up to 5 PCs…

If you’re interested in torrenting, tunnelbear isn’t the way to go.

I use this, I paid for the full year which is $3.33 a month.

I torrent the shit out of things with it, and my speeds are quite nice.

I also use it on multiple devices, and really enjoy the Chrome plugin for bypassing a filter at work.

Humble bundle often has good VPN in their software bundles… im currently using a year of windscribe from a bundle and like it

I wouldn’t trust a VPN provider that has any presence in American jurisdiction.

That disqualifies Tunnelbear, PrivateInternetAccess etc.

Yeah it is when IT WILL FUCKING CONNECT GOD DAMMIT!

Naa Tunnel Bear is kind of a crappier vpn. I personally use NordVPN and reccomend either that, ExpressVPN, Private Internet Access, HideMyAss or Vypr.

If you constantly see ads for a specific product even months or years after it came out, it’s very likely that it’s worse than other options on the market.

In other words, it sucks.

If you’re looking for a vpn or want to compare alternatives, I’d recommend this website: https://thatoneprivacysite.net

I use express VPN and it works pretty well. I use the mobile app every day at work and have used the desktop client while travelling with no issues. Some of the IPs are blocked by Netflix but most of them work.

From spending a lot of time researching what VPN to use, I never saw one recommendation for tunnel bear. IIRC they log data and are quite slow.

I used NordVPN and it had an amazing interface but the speed was too slow for me.

In the end i switched to IPVanish. The only real knock is that they are based in the US. They have the most servers though and their speeds are as fast as youd expect from a VPN. Plus there is no data caps and you can torrent and there are no websites blocked

Why not I use it and works great

+1 for PIA. My entire office uses it. Works well.

Windscribe is also pretty good. 45 for the year, on unlimited devices and data plus speeds are great. And if you need more help check out r/vpn or r/piracy.

Pia is the way to go. Tunnelbear may not collect logs but they require your name and address when you sign up. If you wish to be more anonymous pia only requires an email.

Last time I tried it, Tunnelbear blocked all bittorrent traffic.

Edit: Just found proof

Hotspot Shield might not be the best, but at least torrenting works.

Seeing they are disabling bittorrent ports, can’t you just use a non-standard port to run the P2P service (or just set it to something like “randomise port on start”)? And if you encrypt the traffic on top of that, there is no way for Tunnelbear to distinguish your torrenting traffic from any other download traffic.

Or am I missing something here?
