AVG is not a bad antivirus, but there are some better alternatives in my opinion like Kaspersky or BitDefender.
Stay safe!
Am I the only one that isn’t surprised a company is selling your data when you are using a free version of its program?
I recently switched to Bitdefender after years of Avast. I actually liked Avast a lot better but it got way to pricey. But I’ll probably switch back after my two years I’ve already paid for are up. I’ve only tried AVG’s free version. It wasn’t terrible.
Safe, sure. They have a shady past, but have not heard anything new. Good, yeah. Check out AV test and VB testing. They score well. Used it for years, and never had a problem with it. I would try each one out for a few weeks. Bitdefender is great. I prefer it over Kaspersky.
Both the paid and free versions are reliable.
Alternatives: Avast One Essentials, Kaspersky Free/Kaspersky Security Cloud - Free, WD (Hardened), Avira Free, Bitdefender Free
It’s still OK, does decent job against ransomwares and such things. It had shady past, it does have some ads pop-ups eh which I hate but it is totally fine to use it.
No this company is a scam. Please report them to the federal trade transmission.
I’m using AVG like for 3 years or so… it’s quite good and cheaper than anhy other AV in the market I previously use bitdefender and I’m thinking to use it again because I think it’s much effective (the paid version) though it’s much pricey
I would like to suggest u certain AVs in decreasing order of preference.
Free: Kaspersky, Wisevector Stopx, Comodo(not for avg. users), Bitdefender
Paid: Kaspersky, F-Secure, GDATA, Comodo(not for avg. users), ESET Smart Security with Cloud Sandbox.
To understand how potent kaspersky free is i would like u to watch YT videos of Eclypsee Tech and J ITech Solutions on Kaspersky Security Cloud Free.
Sincerely

Avast/AVG were previously caught selling user data, and they continue to include scareware-esque ‘upselling’ spam in their notifications and even scan results.
As others have said, use a free AV from either Kaspersky or Bitdefender.
Avg isn’t that good bro.
I’m using Kaspersky total security cause it has great lab test scores
I now completely distrust it because the thing downloaded the brand’s own web browser on its own without my dad’s or my permission. We never said that it could download the browser and it automatically pinned itself to the taskbar which is definitely something we didn’t authorize or allow. I’d uninstall AVG after that but my dad won’t let me. This is the computer we use for the family business. But still AVG should not be allowed to download whatever it wants on our computer without asking us or even getting our permission!
AVG has gotten sleezy. I signed up for the free trial and didn’t like it because it slowed my computer down drastically. i couldn’t have the trial without giving them my credit card. it was hard to uninstall. They promised to remind me when the trial was up. they didn’t. i reminded myself and canceled the day before it ended. it was very difficult to do so. they tried to bill my credit card the next day anyway. i had to spend and hour getting them to cancel my subscripiton. sleezy. ps they offered to drop the price 75 percent to get me to stay. they had already lost my trust
AVG is shady, and only care about profits now. They try to install spyware with their product that claims to prevent it, wtf? Then after I quit they send me spam after I unsubscribed to their emails.
I liked AVG very much until I was asked if I was under 16 or over 16 to give me a better game-experience, etc, etc. I decided not to respond to the question. I discovered that clicking the x would not take me out of that screen nor clicking the back arrow. The only option was to click to the phone itself. I refuse to be treated in that manner and so I am parting ways with AVG.
I don’t trust AVG.
I feel like it’s trying to take over my PC.
I’m sure that it’s blocking Windows software on my PC from functioning properly. I’ve been having boot problems on my PC for the past 6 months.
If I restart it, the OS won’t function. Everything stalls, with no control over anything. I have to hard reset it to get functionality back. I’m sure that it’s being caused by software, but I am also convinced that it’s being caused by AVG, since it only started after AVG updated.
AVG invades my browser something terrible. If AVG gets the slightest sniff of a virus, even if it’s not a virus, it locks down my browser. It feels like AVG is telling me what I can and can’t run. At this moment in time, my PC doesn’t feel like my PC. It feels like I am being told what to run by AVG.
Anyway, I don’t have Windows 11 installed yet. I’m still on Windows 10 home. Windows 11 is listed in my updates as a free download however. When I download and install Windows 11, which will be at the end of the month, I am going to get rid of AVG entirely, and swap over to Surf Shark One for 12 months.
I like Surf Shark’s VPN, I use it every day on both the desktop, in the browser, and in my Steamdecks browser. I’m going to go with Surf Shark One for 12 months and see how Surf Shark One performs with the full package, the VPN, the Dedicated Static IP, the Virus Scanner, the works.
Surf Shark One is just about cheap enough to be viable. Considering what you get, I don’t think that £60 for a years subscription is bad.
As far as I am concerned, AVG can go and eat it’s own a hole.
At the minute though, I am so tired of other people telling me what I can and can’t run on my PC. I have Microsoft trying to install software that spies on me, I have AVG telling me what files I can and can’t run, as well as web pages, I have marketers trying to fill every blank piece of space on the browser with adverts that I am not interested in and don’t want to look at, while every browser that I go on install’s tracking cookies that the developers use to spy on my spending habits, so that they can then try to tell me what to buy, using ad’s that I am not interested in, using all of my resources to do it.
It’s getting to the point now, where it doesn’t feel like my PC is MY pc.
It never used to be like this back in the 90’s, when Fax Modem had only just come out, when we were all using Netscape Navigator, and Facebook hadn’t even been thought about yet.
In many ways, the fight over who controls my PC has got worse in the last 3 or 4 decades.
At some point, I wouldn’t be surprised if the Government, FBI or even NSA didn’t try to wade in on it to try and spy on me through my PC either.
End Rant.
Make sure you immediately delete all things having to do with total av it is a scam and a malware. They will take your money and give your many more viruses in return. Chances are you no longer have admin access in your computer and you will have to factory reset
what about the free version?
