Inline Hardware VPN recommendation for full home VPN

I currently run an amplifi alien router which doesnt have vpn capabilities (beyond teleport which wont help me…and i have no plan on replacing the wifi router). I need an inline solution to force all my traffic into my vpn client… I was thinking about the firewalla gold which allows 3rd party vpns but was told it was a glorified raspberry pi and im just going to spend a lot of money for marketing. Is there a solid hardware option that can be recommended for a pro-sumer type home network?

Pfsense using an intel nic with Intel aes instructions, but depends on the budget.

Netgate make quite pricey products with pfsense, but you can install pfsense on your own hardware. Sophos and unify are also popular.

Openwrt, sophos etc. can be installed on your own hardware also.

I was trying to keep it sub 400. The Qotom 4 Q355G4 Core I5-5200U AES-NI (8Gb Ram 16Gb Ssd, 4 Intel LAN) hits the 400 dollar mark but then its fairly closely aligned to the firewalla gold.

Looking on Ali express, they seem to have good reviews. Found one with 2.5gb nics and a celeron j4125 and aes which should be plenty for pfsense, and you can get WiFi, but worth noting… WiFi not perfect with pfsense unless something changed recently, if I remember right it uses 2.4ghz only. I think openwrt works fine with WiFi, but not tested myself. Never tried sophos so not sure. A lot of people pair these devices with an access point to take care of the WiFi.

Qotom 5*intel i225-v 2.5G B3 (might save this one for myself in the not too distant future…)
