How would I use my VPN on my TV? I've only done it on my laptop

how would I use my VPN on my TV? I’ve only done it on my laptop…

If your TV doesn’t natively support a VPN, your options are limited. Either connect a device with a VPN through HDMI, or you will need to force a VPN to your TV through your internet router, if it supports it, or use something like a firewall between your router and TV. If you don’t have “split tunneling” as an option in your router, maybe check out PFSense (the firewall) and split tunneling there.

The aforementioned were for forcing a VPN to the TV only without affecting all your traffic, but if you want to force everything, you could set your VPN up on your router if it supports it. I believe most modern routers should be able to at least connect to OpenVPN connections.

Install the VPN directly onto your TV just like you did with your PC earlier, if your smart TV supports it or by setting it up on your router. If your TV doesn’t have a built-in VPN app, using the router method is usually the best way to ensure all devices connected to your network are protected.

Go through the VPN comparison table for options; you can decide which one is the best for streaming from there. On top of that, I’m not sure why there’s this big misconception that VPNs are used just for illegal purposes

I use a VPN on my Chromecast with Google TV.

Sorry my friend but you keep replying to everyone’s advice saying that you aren’t tech savy and they are speaking a foreign language. Unfortunately, to do what you want to do, you need to be a bit tech savy.

There is no “install and app and click go” solution to your issue. I have the same setup you have and we use a virtual machine to act as a router that connects to a vpn service and any device i tell to use that “router” is now on the vpn. It’s what u/D0_stack said in his post and he provided links on how to do it with various devices such as a raspberry pi.

Reading those links and trying to set that up is your best bet, but i’m sorry to say you have to be a “little” tech savy in order to get it to work.

Couldn’t you just cast the phone to the TV? I’ve just started down this path, and answers are as hard to track down as bigfoot!

Not sure if anyone is still looking for an answer but if you have a desktop with an ethernet card, install a second ethernet card and allow traffic through it. Connect the desktop to a VPN and then you should be set. I haven’t tried this yet but I’m betting if you are using a windows PC it would allow it.

So I use an Amazon FireTV stick, and I installed a VPN app on it that I simply turn on when I want VPN.

Basically, see if you can get a VPN app in whatever your “smart” menu is.

Sorry that’s too much information, i’m overwhelmed with your details now and cannot answer.

If it is android tv, you can install the vpn app. If not use android media stick and install on it.

I guess this depends on how savvy you are.

The way I have set it up:

I run a pfsense firewall and bridged my ISP modem to it.

Created 3 different network vlans

Created 3 different wifi ssids

(1x for US vpn)
(1x for local vpn)
(1x for normal)

Setup openvpn within the pfense and assigned the vlan interfaces

This way I just connect my TV to the ssid with the vpn type I want etc.

Works well but a bit of configuring and extra hardware if you don’t already have it.

Pro’s do it with their ROUTER

Having trouble reading this post

I own a VPN company. I am not looking to advertise or gain clients but I do have a file for the Amazon fire/Google TV and a lot of my clients use that. I highly doubt I am the only VPN company doing that. Look for Amazon fire/google tv vpn files. I hope that helps!

You just spoke a completely different language lol. I’m not as techy as people my age are. You lost me lol

I have roku and a Sony and Samsung TV…

You load a VPN on to your Chromecast? How do you do that? Perhaps you mean you connect your Chromecast to your router which in turn is loaded with a VPN! Which VPN do you use!

I might see if I can! Thanks

We have a Sony and a Samsung and we use roku on both
