How to install vpn in my Apple TV?

How to install vpn in my Apple TV ??

Just wait for TvOS 17

Here’s how I do it:

I have an old MacBook with an Ethernet port. I run the VPN on that, sharing the Wi-Fi connection to the Apple TV via Ethernet, and making sure the Apple TV Wi-Fi isn’t connected. It works.

You can’t. You’ll have to set it up on your router to have an ATV benefit from a VPN. If you can’t do that, use a Smart DNS directly on the AT. That’s what I do.

NordVPN provides me with 2 DNS addresses located in the US to use. I think they sent me a link by email. When I replied it included my external IP address. They then open (whitelist) that IP address on their SmartDNS system.

Forget vpn use smartDNS

Pretty sure actual VPN support comes in next OS update…. Or contact your VPN company, they may have work arounds with DNS or something

I stopped trying, you have to make a developer account, then you can connect your Apple TV to your computer and through that AutoPilot program transfer apps onto the Apple TV

I know Kodi worked, I think VPN did too

But problem is, if you have the free developer account then you have to resign the apps after 7 days I think it was… so every 7 days you need to reconnect to the computer and upload the newly signed app

Get yourself a little pocket router off Amazon like this one. They’re also really handy when you are away on holiday or in a hotel room with an ethernet socket as you can create your own network.

It has 1x Wan port (that you connect to your router via ethernet) and 2x Lan ports (1 for which you connect to your Apple TV via ethernet).

I have a slightly older model but I chose it because it has a manual switch on the side which you can program very easily to enable and disable a VPN connection you set up in its control panel. I like the simplicity of enabling a VPN to my Apple TV by simply flicking a manual switch on the side. I just check the VPN is working by using the speedtest app and checking my location.

As others have said, using a VPN should be a lot simpler soon with TVOS 17 but this has worked for me for a couple of years.

What’s the use case scenarios of using vpn’s on Apple TV?

I have TVOS 17 and don’t see anywhere in the network settings or any settings menu of how to turn on VPN, the must not even have the feature enabled on beta. Want to watch youtube tv in Canada!

Any guides on how to do this?

Good solution for the time being until companies develop their own VPN apps for tvOS 17 which should release next month.

VPNs will arrive with TVOS 17

And how does smartDNS let people watch streams they can’t get in their country?

Watching Netflix ,Amazon prime and (hbo max not available in my country)

It’s there, you need to install an app that allow to connect to a vpn. For example I just tried Tailscale on TvOS

That is very good news…

Edit - Just checked. Does not seem to be there on the 17 preview or perhaps am missing something.

That’s the whole purpose of a smart dns. It allows you to watch geoblocked stuff without slowing your connection. I can currently watch American, australian, and British content on my Apple TV in Hong Kong.

How do u pay for it ?

Oh, true. I didn’t realize you had to download an app to get the VPN going… user error, haha. Express VPN doesn’t have an app yet, unfortunately.
