How to get vpn on a school laptop

i wanna get a vpn on my school laptop to be able to play stuff but i cant since the microsoft store has been blocked by an admin and even the microsoft website redirects me to the already blocked microsoft store. downloading most things on this laptop doesnt work either since for almost everything, you need the administrator username and password. can anyone please help???

There is a reason why it requires administrator access to do most things. If it doesn’t let you install anything, then that’s because you’re not supposed to. If you want a device to mess around with, you should get your own.

Maybe stick to school, you may learn a thing or two

Buy a personal computer for your personal time maybe?

Your school laptop is probably not even good enough to play games so don’t bother lol

School laptops will be locked down to save a lot of work for the IT people that manage them. If it wasn’t locked down they would be wasting a lot time cleaning up messes caused by staff and students. Locking down laptop is standard practice in most businesses.

Gaaaawdd!!! Why do they make it so haaard?!?!?

TLDR: Use your own computer instead of using the one the school gives you, and don’t play games during class.

I keep saying this every time I see a thread like this pop up, if your school has a BYOD policy (and allows you to connect your own device to a school wifi network) than bring your own laptop instead of using the school provided one. The school may block certain websites, but it does not prevent you from downloading the games you want at home and bringing it to school with you.

If you are going to do that though, remember to only play games at times where it would be appropriate. If it’s lunch or break time, than go ahead. If it’s instructional time, please don’t. If your primary goal was to play games during class, than you’re probably better off dealing with a locked down computer because you are exactly the reason why IT locks shit down.

Wait I think I can bypass it by turning of the WiFi and plugging my phone in then downloading a vpn has anyone tried that

I know i’m a little late to the party, but i have a solution. Iron.exe. Idk how to do it, my friend installed it, but you can then get an automatic VPN.

what you wanna do is hotspot through ur phone and install proton and your good. ignore all these goobers telling u not to get a vpn

Idk why some of y’all acting like we don’t get done early wit work or we got free time tf u want us to do, do more work??? I spend 9 hours at school ima gonna do some I want to!

I’ve combed through the internet searching for ways to bypass MY school’s proxies and firewalls, and I’ve seen an unholy amount of people saying “Don’t do it. Focus in school. The IT people put it for a reason.” I mean, if you came here, obviously you considered it. Anyway, back to what I was saying. Firstly, does the school laptop loan you one that you are allowed to take home or is it in school? If it’s able to be taken home, you’ve got some leverage. They most likely have some sort of district VPN that blocks stuff because the school WIFI can’t block it when you’re at home, so you just have to find out what it is and disconnect from/remove it. My district uses one called GlobalProtect, took some time to disconnect it. Next, installers are probably blocked by this prompt: Would you like this app to make changes to your device? Enter an admin username and password. Don’t be daunted by this. Likely, the Microsoft Store app is blocked, so that’s not an option. However, the Microsoft store WEBSITE, you can go to (if it’s unblocked or if you can take it home, you disconnected from the school VPN) and it’s likely you can get working installer there. I recommend X VPN, but it’s really up to you. Once you get it, you will be able to freely browse the web! Hope this helped.

Also, another thing you can do is install a Brave browser. Brave, on alot of school district’s policies, is not a normal browser, so you can get extensions- such as VPNs. Also, if you press alt-shift-N while on Brave, it will open a Tor browser, which sends you to encrypted .onion websites, allowing you to search freely. This browsing method is alot slower and takes time to connect to, however.

But then gasp he might have to pay attention at school.

Excuse me for necroposting, but maybe there’s a REASON he posted this? Your comment doesn’t help. Unless you’re suggesting that he might learn something in his/her/their classes that can help him bypass network restrictions?

Well, it’s because they are doing everything they can to make sure you don’t- and they’re really good at it. It’s their job. After all, it’s likely they have high degrees in this stuff, while you’re likely a student trying to figure this stuff out. It takes a lot of skill to be able to bypass a school’s firewall restrictions.

That’s why the school I work at doesn’t even allow BYOD. You can either have a full time computer the school gives you or if your family rejects it then each classroom has a few laptops you can have during
Class.

We don’t allow the use of a laptop where the teacher can’t see what the students are doing.

A problem with that is a lot of school districts have their OWN VPNs on the laptop that blocks a lot of stuff. Even if you do a different WIFI you might still have problems.

No way you have to be in school for NINE WHOLE HOURS??? We barely have to do more than seven!

That is, assuming OP would’ve been helped by being told how to bypass network restrictions. Unless you are suggesting that following his classes would, in fact, NOT be beneficial to OP. Doesn’t matter if it teaches him how to bypass stuff.
