Maybe a stupid question given that I’ve used it for just under a year now, but I almost never see it recommended when people ask for a good antivirus. I also see a lot of people complain about the fact that it’s Russian which honestly never really bothered me but seems to bother a lot of others. (Which is fair, I get it) I have always thought it was a bit, overprotective to say the least. Like how I’d run a program that they think is unsafe so I’m then stuck with a big pop-up forcing me to quarantine the file or delete it and restart my pc. Anyway, I’m not sure anymore if I like it as much as I did so what would you guys recommend?
Kaspersky is so good that it is able to score 99.6% to 100% every Av test and is sometimes on pair with Bitdefender and if it’s not it’s better than Bitdefender
protection wise, probably the best
I have been using Kaspersky antivirus for over 8 years, and in my opinion, it is one of the best antiviruses on the market, competing closely with Bitdefender. The antivirus consistently receives high scores in AV-TEST and AV-Comparatives evaluations.
The paid version offers fully effective solutions such as an encrypted browser, VPN, and password manager.
Regarding the company’s reputation issues, Kaspersky has made significant commitments to increased accountability. These include soliciting independent reviews and verification of its software’s source code, and announcing the migration of some of its core infrastructure for foreign customers from Russia to Switzerland. In November 2020, Kaspersky completed the relocation of its customers’ data from Russia to Switzerland. Additionally, the company has opened multiple transparency centers in Switzerland, Brazil, Canada, Spain, and Malaysia, allowing state agencies, government experts, and regulators to review its source code.
its one of top 2 antivirus along with Bitdfender
there is a youtube channel who test different kind of virus, ransomware and etc on different antiviruses
both Bitdfender and Kaspersky fully passed it and protected the pc
mostly the people who hates Kaspersky i see copy paste their response, and acts like bots. And the eset fans, and people with RussiaphobiA
It was suggested to me by another redditor an has worked flawlessly for me since, very lightweight too. Although I do NOT remember his username I still thank him for his suggestion ![]()
Kaspersky is one of, if not the best antivirus on the market currently, and even won AV-Comparatives’ “Product of the year” Award. As for Kaspersky being Russian, yeah, it’s true. But nothing inherently bad has ever been uncovered, and realistically normal users such as me and you aren’t in any danger.
If you’d like to try a different AV, Bitdefender is also very good.
Kaspersky won the AV-Comparatives Product of the Year award for 2023 (AV-Comparatives Awards 2023 - AV-Comparatives). It is technically one of the strongest AVs currently in the market. As you know, it is also the AV that has the most controversy surrounding it.
At one point, a Kaspersky employee went into a Russian citizen’s computer to look for data and gave it to the FSB/Russian government. While many AV companies help law enforcement, many in the cyber security industry feel that an action like this should be performed by an offensive security company and not by a company that is supposed to protect user privacy. This is not Russiaphobia or any hate towards Kaspersky but an actual publicly known event that took place and no one has refuted it.
You are of course free to choose what you want to use but you should also be informed on actual events not tainted by politics.
One of the best. Some people are afraid of it because it’s a Russian company, which is probably why you don’t see it recommended often, but detection wise it’s the best
In this sub most people recommend Kaspersky or Bitdefender. The russian propogonda does not have any concrete evidences and I find it so funny that KGB which is one of the premier spy agencies will bother to spy on average household PC, lol
However, if it still bothers you can get Bitdefender.
You have to be naive to think that one of the biggest ruzzian IT company have nothing to do with terrorist government. Save your data for yourself…
I used to use the free version and actually liked it but after my latest cleanstall of windows I just stick with Defender now alongside running Simplewall
Seems adequate enough as long as I’m not an idiot… which I’m too paranoid to be. But even if I was clicking random links through shady sites all willy nilly like would a “good” AV even protect me? I’m no expert in this topic but I doubt it. Common sense is the best protector
Yeah that’s mostly why I made this post. Most videos that do test kaspersky list it very highly, but if you come to a post on this sub or another related to it, I don’t see it listed very often. Its mostly a bunch of comments recommending eset or bitdefender.
And again I’m not worried about them being Russian, I know they have taken big steps to show that people can see that their code is safe.
I really just wanted to see if eset or Bitdefender would be worth switching to, but It doesn’t seem like it is.
how does bitdefender do with ad/popup blocking?
Literally no different than any US based company.
I think it’s purely because of Russia AKA reddit’s Boogeyman lol. The AV itself is great. That’s all I cared about when using it
It is a difference e.g. if your naked wife is seeing by you or by your neighbour, no?
The free version is as good as the subscription one, right?
Afaik yes it’s the same. Free was just missing some premium features I didn’t care about including but not limited to pw manager or data leaks. VPN as well. All the extra fluff
