How can I set IP to specific location (parents' house)?

Hello internet friends. Question. With the fun new announcement made by the legal streaming overlords, I am wondering if there is any way for me to use a VPN and set my IP to one that would be considered to be at my parents’ house so it fools Ntflx into thinking I am there at least once a month.

Apologies if this makes no sense, I can try to explain further if need be.

If your parents have a router that supports it you can set up a VPN server on it and connect to it from anywhere, and essentially connect through their internet.

Son, just visit us once a month. Are we asking too much? We raised you for 18 years for god sakes, even if for Netflix, you can bring in the popcorn and watch an episode or two instead of dicking around with VPN. Modem is going to catch virus and you know how much I hate calling Xfinity. Don’t make me call them, son.

As others have posted, you can setup a VPN server on their router, or really on almost any device that runs 24/7. Wireguard I would highly recommend as the protocol its super fast and easy to setup. And if you just need to do it intermittently i.e. the once a month thing it could be run even on a normal PC that’s not running all the time, you’d just have to coordinate it.

You need to run a VPN server on a PC inside their house and then you VPN into it.

Do I need a VPN Router with me on the road as well to connect to the VPN of my parents or can I connect normally through the laptop?

The router is going to catch fire with all the video streaming.

Or just give them the few bucks Netflix will likely charge for adding an out of the house resident to their account. That too. Adding anymore equipment to someone else’s house that you are rarely at seems like a nightmare.

Any client should work.
