How can a beginner VPN user check to see if everything is working properly?

I’ve checked my ip and it registers in a different location, so that’s good. I also heard to check for DNS leaks, so I went on dnsleaktest and it gave me: gdrpmi.216.227.130.210.dyn.lakeshoretel.com

Is this result supposed to be normal?

And is there anything else I should check to see if my VPN on my mac is working as it should?

This site has a lot more info: http://ipleak.net/ I’m kind of a beginner at this, too, though…

When performing a DNS Leak Test, all that matters is that your ISP, whether it be Comcast, Time Warner, Cox, whomever, does not show up. The only thing I can tell you is that if your ISP is “lakeshoretel.com”, then something is wrong. If it something else, Comcast, for example, then you’re good to go. This is not that complicated when you purchase VPN, turn it on, check your IP, check your DNS at ipleak.com, if it looks good, then it probably is.

If you are using it for torrents:

What you might want to do is first turn off the VPN and check the results using the IP leak check and write the info. down. (It should be showing your actual ISP)

Turn on the VPN and perform the test again. You should not be seeing any of the same info. as you did with the VPN off. In fact, your ISP should not be showing and the ISP used by the VPN should be showing instead.

I dont do DNS leak test, as a beginner I only use google to check if my IP address is different from Original ISP IP. If its is different then I know Im working fine.

Also this:

Then check to see if the ip is the one your VPN provider is the same as the one they show. If a different one or multiple show up ask them why.

He is connecting through the PIA Midwest gateway. If it is showing lakeshoretel I believe that it is working properly.

Your vpn can be working fine but you may be still using your ip dnsserver without knowing and they can see every site and everything your downloading so you should take the dnsleak test to make sure your not leaking your info.

What if you are using the google DNS?
