Perhaps in China, but not in general. The problem is not with Proton so much as it is with the ‘Great Firewall’ for deliberately ruining people’s internet experiences and literally forcing them to use VPNs just to have halfway passable experiences.
Surfshark sometimes works (3-4 days out of 7). But the speed is very limited and you often have to manually connect.
Definitely would not recommend it.
NordVPN is equally trashy in China as Proton.
I cannot remember when NordVPN ever worked here for anybody lol. Google “does NordVPN work in China reddit” and go from there.
If you are going to get a VPN, get Astrill, LetsVPN or Mullvad. Do not waste your time/money on NordVPN, ExpressVPN etc… They don’t work here.
Don’t hold your hopes up, I couldn’t get NordVPN to work at all during my last trip. LetsVPN worked best for me and quickly turning it off every now and again for certain apps.
OP is asking about the experience in China. I do not think it is relevant to the topic, whether Proton works well elsewhere.
