Fortinet is blocking websites even though it's never been installed

I can’t access Reddit (and many other ordinarily safe websites, including Amazon and even Walmart, if you can believe that) on desktop because I keep getting an error that reads:

"An application is stopping Chrome from safely connecting to this site

“Fortinet” wasn’t installed properly on your computer or the network:

  • Try uninstalling or disabling “Fortinet”
  • Try connecting to another network

NET::ERR_CERT_AUTHORITY_INVALID"

There’s a box below that error message called ADVANCED, and when I click on it the following appears:

“Fortinet isn’t configured correctly. Uninstalling “Fortinet” usually fixes the problem. Applications that can cause this error include antivirus, firewall, and web-filtering or proxy software”

The issue is that this started happening only a few hours ago. I’ve been using this network for almost two months now and I’ve never had this problem. I don’t have Fortinet installed on my computer so I’m guessing this is a network issue.

What can I do? Any and all help is appreciated.

Deep Inspection without having installed the proper certificate?

Edit: Do you use FortiClient? I’m confused by the “uninstall Fortinet” message.

If there is not VPN, there has to be a Fortinet firewall on your network or upstream blocking your connections or trying to do deep ssl inspection on your traffic.

Do you receive your internet directly from an ISP or it is provided by someone else?

You need to talk to the people that manage the firewall in your building

this is happening to me on my phone. it literally won’t let me access google search. I have no clue what fortinet is, and i’ve never installed it.

Just change your wifi connection and it solves the problem. Regards

In my case it was a web filter policy from our Fortigate router applied to a specific server, our Terminal Server. The person who created it used the “Default web filtering” instead of creating a new one. On that one, “Fortiguard Category Based Filter” is turned on and it has a lot of categories which you can chose to “allow, block, monitor, etc.”.

It was the “Phishing websites” set to “Block” that is blocking the website of our business partner. It had nothing to do with the app you install on a terminal server.

I will report it to to Fortinet’s support and hopefully they can do something about it.

Same issue, here is the screenshot. I assume the edge browser itself or the ad blocker extension uses it, so one or the other reason. Maybe even the website is using it, however, it is unknown why I see it now.

ola to tentando baixar musicas no rutracker e so esta aparecendo isso o que eu facço

Okay so to clarify, virtually any Fortinet blocking is going to be done by a physical appliance on your network, not a program on your device. So unless you’re using a VPN, you should be seeing this error across every device connected to your networks

friend that happened to me yesterday in several models of fortinet. In my case, the reason was because the fortiguard dns had gone down since those fg used the fortiguard dns. As a recommendation you should use the dns of your isp

This is what you would see if your webfilter license is expired. Disable the webfilter on your policy.

Your firewall is definitely a fortigate, it is trying to do deep packet inspection which requires a certificate that u do not have installed. Check ur gateway ip, scan the ports and try to access it, you definitely have a fortigate in the gateway

Check your Policies on the fortigate… likely you got a web filtering policy enabled on one of your rules.

Does it do it in chrome?
Click the padlock next to url. View cert. What’s the very name

Are you on a corporate network?

It sounds like your IT Admin is blocking social sites with a Web Filter or Deep Packet Inspection, and you do not have the proper cert installed to load the actual warning.

I read some comments and it mentions that you are on a personal device on a private network. Are you in an apartment where your complex provides internet? it is possible they had a loose filter turned on, and their licensing expired. If the filter is on when the license expires, it blocks most everything! Basically, this is not an issue with your computer, but the network your on.

how to uninstall fortinet and use youtube

Fixed it by using a VPN

Thank all of yall for helping me with this, (ive been having this problem for a while too) and now i can go onto some other sites that were getting blocked, Thank every single one of you and have a nice day!

I’m not tech savvy at all. I’ve never even heard of Fortinet, which is why this is so confusing. I’ve never (knowingly) installed anything with “Forti” in the name, and a quick search of all my installed programs confirms it.
