It really isn’t a matter of mistakes. You can’t change physics. It’s the third law of thermodynamics: “you can’t even break even.” The most fundamental is that you can’t change the latency of your connection. The speed of light is what it is. Even if you don’t ever make a mistake (not possible by the way - everyone, even professionals at deception, makes mistakes) you can’t change time of flight.
Remember that there is no legal requirement for an employer to prove anything. They need only suspect and come to a conclusion.
Also consider how easy it is to call local law enforcement for a welfare check at your known address. Can you really train and count on everyone there to tell the right story? After all, you’re lying and lies rapidly become too complicated to keep straight.
Add, as in the case of OP, a managed device and–as I’ve said–you are counting on the incompetence of your IT department. Not a good bet, given the capability of automated systems.
Go back and read the much vaunted VPN Primer in the files section of this sub. Read carefully and you’ll find the statement by the author: “you will get caught.” Mistakes just get you caught faster.
You’re pretty much my favorite person right now. I’m sure I’m not alone. lol
Do you have any more detail on this process? I got 2 GL-MT300Ns. I hooked the first up to my modem/router, then went into the admin panel and set up the wire guard server. Then I downloaded the config file and uploaded that to the client on my second router. I connected the second router to my hotspot, and nothing. It seems like it’s not connecting to the VPN, but it’s also not allowing me to load any sites from my hotspot.
Any advice or guidance would be greatly appreciated.
I figured out the issue. It’s because Slate requires a public IP to run a VPN server and the home which will be running my VPN server has a google mesh wifi system that’s hooked into the same switch as my slate… and my slate is getting the cabled internet from the google wifi system rather than the modem. The mesh system is making my IP Address private (when connected directly to the modem, the IP address is public). Need to figure out a workaround for this.
I’ll make not of #2 and #3 once I figure out this above issue. Thanks so much for the reply.
I’m in the same boat as you. It’s super frustrating, and I feel like I’m in the depths of google hell trying to figure this out. I’m having issues even connecting my gl.inet router to my modem so you’re ahead of me here,
https://docs.gl-inet.com/en/3/tutorials/how_to_check_if_isp_assigns_you_a_public_ip_address/
I have an inkling it has to do with this for me ^ basically if your IP address is private then you can’t run a VPN server.
Does your gl.inet config page Ip address match up with your ISP’s IP Address?
Cheers
I got this to work by setting up port forwarding on the main router. Port forwarding details are below.
IP address: that of gli router hosting the vpn server (my main router was able to load this as the gli router was connected through Ethernet).
port(s): 51820
protocol: tcp and udp
Problem is, the connection is a little slow so while zoom voice calls work, sharing my screen or turning on video makes things very laggy. Maybe need a stronger router other than the GL mini or use a direct connection.
