eero Secure is no more / eero Secure+ is rebranded as eero Plus with backup service
So the TLDR is that the cheaper secure that offered stuff like network stats is going away and the only option will be the more expensive one that includes a password manager, VPN, and antimalware software?
If they don’t include some of the features of secure in the free software, then yikes. It was always dumb that you needed to pay anything extra to see information like bandwidth used for the month, but to get rid of the cheaper tier and justifying it by throwing in extremely meh (at best) services that most people already have alternatives for? That is garbage.
Problem: Eero Secure has a really bad reputation as a bad product.
Solution: Rename it!
I hope they bloody make the usage insights free and baked into their product!
Even TP link offer this and parental controls for free.
No way am I paying $10 a month for base functionality.
This would be an excellent opportunity to invest in a real router/firewall and move your Erros to bridge mode.
Friends, join the /r/Firewalla movement. As a router, that device is amazing with so many amazing features. And none of this nickel and dime crap from Eero. I can’t believe how far they have fallen in 2 years.
Bummer. It was a nice thing for my parents and getting additional data info.
So let’s see…expensive hardware, features locked behind additional subscription, poor support, updates hit or miss, lack of ports… Really starting to hope Amplifi comes out with a new Mesh system
I’m done with Eero. I don’t need secure+. I already pay for those services or equivalent services. Without regular secure as an option, with those features, then Eero really does become the worst router for users. I’m done.
Everyone who thought they’d feature by feature their way to a paid monthly service was right. Eventually eero without a subscription will have no features at all.
I am confused. I have eero secure for $30 a year and luckily it just renewed. Its a great deal especially since it works on all five networks I manage. I don’t need all the other apps especially since I have a lifetime subscription grandfathered for Malwarebytes.
The link on the posting says they are making the change on Sept 28 but as of Sept 29, eero secure is still for sale. Its not clear whether I will be grandfathered in and still keep my plan at the old price or will get charged $100 next year for additional features I do not want. If so, I would cancel eero plus and go ahead and get me a Firewalla - after five years its a wash and Firewalla has better security. If eero thinks they can force $30 per year customers up to $100 a year customers they are wrong. They will just convert $30 per year customers to $0.
Wow you want me to move to external firewall solution don’t you Eero… $99 for this is not happening.
Longtime Eero Secure subscriber, just dumped it for pfSense box. I do stuff like this for a living so it wasn’t difficult but it’s definitely not an easy button. Eero Secure has value just like opendns and other similar offerings.
I’m glad they are making my life more simple during a cost of living crisis. But perhaps not in the way they intended.
Bought a Firewalla Purple a few months ago, the eeros are now just wireless access points (and not very good ones).
And I bet they’re glad they closed down the old sub.
I need a VPN on my router but the reviews for encrypt.me are a deal stopper. Zero interest.
As someone who is currently enrolled in Eero Secure, I will not be subscribing to the new Eero Plus. Just setup NextDNS and will be looking at moving to Firewalla at some point in the future.
So the cheaper eero secure is still reminding?
So will Ring Protect Pro come with eero Plus now that Secure is deprecated?
Call it what you want just send me a 50% coupon code around the time it expires and we’re cool. Worth $50ish. Not worth $100.
Ugh. I was going to drop down from + this year to regular. The only benefit I used anymore was the DNS service. Which is easy enough to replace.
I’ll prob just drop the service. If they want $10 a month they need to add way more login and granular controls to ad blocking, etc.
Hopefully, there will still be 50% off coupons offered regularly.
