I tested it while connected to my local wifi on iPad, but all my apps still see my local location. Guessing because of the home wifi connection.
I tried setting my apps (including google maps) to not use precise location and use only while using the app, but they all still point to current location (instead of country where Nord is connected to).
In theory, a VPN doesn’t actually change your location - it only affects your IP location which works on the internet level. Mobile devices have multiple ways to track one’s location, Location Services (GPS) being the primary method. Unfortunately, the VPN is unable to override the GPS.
That being said, most of the geo-restricted services use IP addresses to determine your location. However, some mobile apps do use Location Services for such purposes. To access these services, you can try disabling GPS or Location Services in your device settings (not only the precise location), but some apps (e.g. ESPN+, I believe) require Location Services to be turned on, and if they’re disabled, you won’t be able to you use the app at all.
If the location does not change after disabling the Location Services, you may try clearing the app’s cache, which would mean reinstalling the app if you’re on iOS, and if the location remains the same afterward, it may be a sign that the service uses other technologies to determine the location.
thanks, yeah in my case the apps require location services. are there any other reliable ways to change gps location on ios?
