Do chrome extension works as a complete VPN?

I understand the Chrome extension will only affect Chrome itself. However, what I’d like to know is if it will work as a complete VPN application within chrome, or if I need to use the Windows app to complement it as for safe and private way to use internet.

I ask this cause I wonder if it is a good idea to only use the windows application when using torrent, while leaving the extension pretty much always on to surf the internet.

Also, changing a bit the subject but to avoid creating a new thread, can the ISP check my IP through my downloads when using VPN? I think I read it somewhere once, but can’t find it anymore.

This is how the Chrome Extension works. So it does encrypt any traffic through chrome however if you are using a torrent client then I would highly recommend using the desktop app as well leading into your second question. Yes, your ISP can see your IP and traffic if you are not using the desktop VPN.

I’m pretty sure PIA commented about this on the defunct forum. They said the web extension is only a proxy.
