Data not working without having vpn on

My iphone 13 data only works when I have VPN on and I have tried taking the sim out and also restarting data and network. Nothing seems to work.

A lot of VPNs have a setting to kill internet if they’re not on. Go through your VPN settings carefully.

Hi everyone, I found a way it is to go to settings and go to private dns the switch from “off” to “automatic”
I hope it helps, managesd to trial and error after a few hourse

Hold on there, Iha say, just a cotton-pickin’ minute, data has to work for VPN to work. Unless you’ve got some private domain thing going on where you have IP routing tables and the like.

did you ever find a solution?

Was there ever a fix to this I have the exact same problem

Did anyone ever find a solution to this? My girlfriend is having the same problem on her phone.

any way to fix that if that is the case? I’m on Turbo VPN.

idk because every app such as youtube, instagram, and snapchat will not load until I go to phone settings and turn on vpn, and refresh the app. Then everything works but much slower.

Did you ever find a solution?

Turn the setting off.

Download chrome, turn off VPN and go to youtube or Instagram. If you see an OpenDNS error, t-mobile is applying content filtering on your line. It will happen even if you restore your phone, switch sim cards, or change your phone. If you call support they won’t know what you’re talking about or how to fix it. This happened to my daughter’s line and it was a pain to get it resolved. They only fix we found was to download a DNS changer app to set the DNS to google or cloudflare for mobile data. This was the only way to fix it on iOS, I think you can do it manually on Android.

What plan are you on? Sounds like it could be the video throttle.

Yes,
I went to my network provider (T-Mobile) and they were able to deactivate my physical SIM card. Still in the phone just not functioning. Then they enabled the ESim card and now everything is great

I have unlimited everything not sure if that answers your question though

Yeah that doesn’t help, most plans are unlimited now with different features. Sounds like your plan throttles video. You can test your video speed itself by going to Fast.com

I tested my speed with VPN on and got 400kbps. And then tried the test without vpn and it said “Could not reach our servers to perform the test. You may not be connected to the internet.”. So yea my phone is pretty much useless without vpn on.

Turn VPN off and then PING the VPN server and then PING 8.8.8.8 If you get a return on the first and not the second uninstall that VPN client and try again. If you can still ping only the VPN server, do a reset and restore on your phone but leave out the VPN client.
