CyberGhost VPN review - My impression

I recently got my hands on CyberGhost about a week ago, courtesy of a friend’s subscription. Having tried only two other VPNs before, I was eager to give this one a go for comparison. Here’s my brief first impression review:

I’ve been using it on my Macbook and iPhone, and I found both apps to be quite intuitive and user-friendly. However, once you’re familiar with VPNs, navigating them tends to be straightforward across the board. CyberGhost offers apps for all operating systems and even some optimized for TVs, along with Chrome and Firefox extensions.

CyberGhost boasts an impressive server count, with over 7000 servers as per their website, and I didn’t encounter any issues with available locations. Additionally, all their servers are RAM-based, which is a notable advantage.

Personally, I prefer WireGuard, and that’s what I’ve been using. I’ve experienced a speed loss of around 30-40%, which is manageable but not ideal. With my less-than-stellar home internet, the speed reduction is quite noticeable. Streaming on Netflix worked fine, but I noticed delays in video loading and torrent downloads taking longer than usual.

While I’m not paying for my subscription, I checked out the pricing on their website. It’s relatively pricey for a monthly plan at $12.99, and even the 6-month plan at $6.99 is on the higher side. However, the 2-year deal is a steal at just $2.25 per month, with 2 months free. They also offer a generous 45-day money-back guarantee, surpassing the standard 30-day period.

Bonus features include being based in Romania, outside of the 5, 9, and 14 eyes jurisdiction, an ad blocker that effectively blocks pop-ups, split-tunneling, and P2P servers.

On the downside, their last no-logs policy audit was in 2012, which raises some concerns. Additionally, they lack the L2TP protocol.

In conclusion, CyberGhost is a decent VPN, although not the absolute best on the market. It’s certainly a strong contender. Feel free to reach out if you disagree with any points in this review. I’m interested in hearing others’ perspectives as well.

Is it still good in 2025? Or are there better VPNs for torrenting?

Edit: So it looks like Cyberghost is not the best for torrenting. Found a sheet floating around that tested the bigger VPNs and their speeds for torrenting. Surfshark is quite fast so decided to try it out. Maybe the sheet will also help someone make a decision, here it is: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1e1y9izFifgXHyHrzrr8TF3pCHovq7maQi6bsMxreJz4/edit?gid=1049980094#gid=1049980094

wtf? is this just a rewording of this post

I’ve been using CyberGhost VPN for a few months now, and it’s been pretty solid overall. The interface is super user-friendly, which makes it great for beginners.

I like that they have specialized servers for streaming and torrenting they’ve worked well for unblocking Netflix and other platforms. Speeds are decent, but I’ve noticed they can dip during peak times.

One thing to keep in mind is their privacy policies they’re based in Romania, which is outside the 14 Eyes, so that’s a plus. It’s not perfect, but for the price, especially if you grab a long-term plan, it’s worth considering.

I’m afraid that I have found cyberghost to have a greater than 30% speed loss and it does not provide access to many blocked sites. It’s a very poor VPN and I would not recommend it to anybody

Why did you copy and paste from another users post. :joy:
