I have a client with a Sonicwall with VPN setup. I can connect to it fine via macOS with L2TP over IPSec. However, when I connect with Windows 7 or 10, I get the following error: https://cl.ly/54765a/Image%202019-03-28%20at%2012.29.16%20PM.png
I setup the Window VPN connection with L2TP/IPsec with pre-shared key.
Why would this work perfectly fine under macOS, but not Windows?
You probably need to add the Sonicwall VPN client as an allowed app in the Windows firewall exception list.
I’m using the built-in Windows VPN connection. I thought there would be VPN client right on the hardware for me to download, but I’m not sure where to find that. I also tried downloading the Global VPN Client here: http://help.mysonicwall.com/applications/vpnclient/ But it only had a release note for 64-bit and only a 32-bit exe.
The global VPN client is dead. They are not actively developing it and are actively pushing SSLVPN.
Setup SSLVPN on your SonicWALL and download the SSLVPN client from mysonicwall.com
Do not download the sonicwall vpn client from the windows store. its garbage.
This sonicwall isn’t under support anymore. Is that required to download the sslvpn client? I created an account and added the unit, but I can’t seem to find a download link.
When I go to My Downloads, all I see is TZ 105 firmware, Global VPN Client and SMA 500v Virtual Appliance Upgrade.
I’m guessing I need to update the firmware first?
No you dont. you dont even have to have the firewall added. Its a free download.
I am not an employee of SonicWALL. My opinions are my own and reflect my opinion of the current state of SonicWALL products.
Also not an employee, and can confirm that GVPN client is deprecated. Use the Netextender client and save yourself some headache.
