Can someone get me the 101 of VPN?

Since you’ll be the only user of that Virtual Server, they still could if they got a seizure warrant for the country it’s in.

When you want to hide, you’re better off being a needle in an insecure haystack (say, Nord or PIA), and obfuscating that exit point, by using TOR; than trying to DIY an untracable network.

You are correct. I was trying to keep it simple and distinguish between VPN server software and VPN client software and how they would be used. It seemed to me that OP was confused about the difference, but I could have been clearer as well.

Geo located services becomes a pain. Dont have a particular app in mind at the moment but have faced in the past. If I’m honest better that those iot devices don’t have Internet access and as much local control as possible but thats kind off topic of OP anyway.

I think I get what you are saying. Like if I host home assistant and it has all that info on me even though I host it it still can be seen by my ISP or potentially anyone since its connected to the internet ?

Unless you’re exposed HA via port forwarding you should be fine. I use Nabu Casa to avoid the faff with duckdns etc.

So HA is always available when I’m out via Nabu Casa but I use tailscale to connect to other stuff.
