Can I use a VPN to block ads on Twitch & Youtube?

Hello, I’m new to VPN, considering purchasing my first one.

I read about the following benefits and am seeking:

  1. While using a VPN and connected to servers from a few countries (Ukraine, Russia, Iraq) that I will not receive ads on Twitch or Youtube. Can anyone vouch for this?

  2. Other benefits, I am a gamer and Steam games are cheaper in countries outside the USA.

I appreciate any input or confirmation concerning this :folded_hands:t2:

For YouTube yes, set location to Albania

Yeah works on any device

Steam don’t work as you need to change your store country in settings, they ask for payment info from the country and you sometimes need talk with customer support to change it. You can just create/buy a new account in that country but they will still ask for payment from that country.

For steam games, where you actually are or where you’re pretending to be doesn’t matter, your account region is different to your location.

E.g. I have an Australian steam account but have lived in Europe for a few years now. My account is still in Aud because the games are cheaper and I have an Aussie payment method, but because we’re in Europe my wife has to VPN to Australia to play sekiro from my library because for some reason the sharing on that game isn’t enabled here.

vpn won’t block ads, use ad-blocker

I use uBlock Origin and Opera. I’m not sure what all my settings are, it has been so long since I set both of them up. I don’t get any ads on my YouTube browsing, and I use it heavily every day. I hardly ever turn on my VPN, so can’t help there.

Excellent, thank you for confirmation :folded_hands:t2:. Does this work on Youtube mobile app too?

So even if I use VPN and change location in Steam, I cant just use my debit or credit card? (I am USA located currently)

Opera is Chinese spyware and it’s closed source.

Brave FTW

Anywhere as long as server is set to Albania.
It will be hard for you to get a VPN with Russia and Ukraine servers at the moment

Ads are not served there

No, you can’t. Steam Support :: Steam Store Country

Your store country must be set to the country where you currently reside and you must have a local payment method you can use to make purchases.

All available payment methods for your current store country are listed during the checkout process. If you are unable to make purchases from your current store country, look for Steam-compatible CD Keys and/or Steam Wallet Codes available for purchase at your local gaming retail stores.

You can buy a steam account from turkey and buy cdkeys from that country if that what you want.

I haven’t used this service so I’m not sure exactly how it works, but Revolut offers currency exchange services so you can deposit money into it and exchange for whatever currency (assuming it’s available on their platform, they have a lot of currencies, but not all of them)
Again I haven’t actually used it, I only have seen that it’s there so not 100% sure if it’ll work, but it’s probably your best bet (at least to my knowledge)

I’m using Kaspersky VPN setting location to Russia to block twitch ads

Huh…on the desktop you seem to be correct (at least so far), but on the Apple TV I still get ads (I have a VPN there as well connected to Albania).

That’s an interesting behaviour. Still, I learned something.

Are those ads on Apple TV served by Google? Google does not serve ads in Albania.
Are you seeing them on the Youtube app on Apple TV?
Your VPN may be leaking shit
