Can a Calix 844G be setup for a VPN?

My ISP won’t allow remote management of my 844G with a fixed IP address. So is it possible to VPN into the thing and thereby have access to my whole network (including the 844G from the inside?

Thanks in advance for thoughts

the 844’s doen’t support VPN, you could VPN into a device setup on your network and access the LAN interface of the 844 if your ISP has allowed management on that side.

Your ISP could give you a passthrough port and you could put the static on a router/vpn behind that. That is how I would tell you to do it, but I would also charge you for the privilege.

Or you could just use google remote desktop and save yourself a bunch of money and heartache and use a jump box on the inside of the network.

Know nothing about jump boxes. Would that be easier than just getting an Ubiquity or Omada router?

A jump box is just a computer on the inside with remote access enabled to it. Then you can control all of the inside stuff from it instead of needing a vpn.

Got it. Thanks. If I understand correctly, I could set up a windows box with remote desktop. I don’t think I could use that with a Mac though (which I use 90 percent of the time to access from the outside).

You can use teamviewer or any number of other such options.
