Any recommendation for secure, low cost VPN on a Chromebook that will allow access to US based site

Hey good evening!
I’m looking for some advice/recommendations on a VPN service.
For context:
I’m trying to complete some financial documents on a website that is US based while I am currently in South Korea for the foreseeable future. I’ve tried multiple times to access the site only to be blocked because South Korea is not a “country that has a business treaty with the US”. I’m told the workaround for this is to get a VPN to then access the site. I know absolutely nothing about VPNs so please keep that in mind.
Some criteria that need to be met:
1.) Needs to be secure, as I mentioned I’m entering financial info and don’t want it stolen.
2.) Low cost. I looked into “free” VPNs, but everything I saw said they were trash and that they wouldn’t be secure. I don’t want to pay an arm and a leg to complete this item, and it’s really the only thing I need the VPN for so I’ll be discontinuing use after this.
3.) I have a Chromebook
Please let me know what your thoughts are!

I use Proton VPN as my personal VPN and it has never let me down. The paid version is a bit spendy (~$70/year or $10 for a month ) but there is a free version that should be sufficient for what you want to do. The version of the app on the play store installed and runs fine on my chromebook

Mullvad VPN $5/month whether you subscribe for one month or yearly. Good to try for one month. They also have refund policy.

are you able to get Google one?

I sign up for the 100Gb drive plan and it costs $2 per month and comes with Google one vpn for both Chromebook and my phone

thank you all very much for your time!!! I ended up going with NordVPN, but I appreciate you all taking the time to respond!

I use nordvpn on my Chromebook, my Linux desktop and my Android Phone.

What about Windscribe? Chrome addon available and the free tier should be enough for what you need I think.

Private Internet Access.

only problem with free versions is that i’ve heard they get paid from selling the information, which makes sense. and since i’m using this to upload financial info I’m shying away from free

I’ve found Mullvad works much better for streaming video than some of the more expensive alternatives, been flawless so far.

i will have to look into this!!

Forgive my ignorance I know literally nothing about VPNs whatsoever. Just to clarify, this will allow me to securely access this US based site?

I like that Windscribe paid can be had for as little as $3/mo, paid monthly, via Build Your Own Access plan.

I understand though I suspect Proton might be different in that respect. They are based in Switzerland and the even though they aren’t a part of the European Union directly, they follow many of the user protection regulations. That is on top of the already strict regulations that the Swiss themselves impose on businesses.

NordVPN uses strong encryption, has a strict no-logs policy, and provides features like a kill switch and DNS leak protection.

It offers a dedicated Chromebook app that you can download from the Chrome Web Store.

You should research this. If you are concerned about security, my very strong recommendation is to select a VPN that doesn’t collect logs - and has been audited by a third party.

NordVPN uses strong encryption

it sounds like OP doesn’t care about the strong encryption, logging or other things – he just wants a USA presence to work around region blocking.

OP: I think most VPNs let you chose which country your connection appears to be coming from. NordVPN’s website likely mentions this

I remember watching a video stating that paying by debit/credit card still allows you to be tracked. The VPN service the guy in the video used allowed you to pay with a gift card or bluebird(cash loaded) card

https://nordvpn.com/contact-us/

they have email – ask them your specific question. I’m sure the answer is “yes” but they can confirm.

you: “I’m in SK. I want to connect to a US business that is blocked in SK. Will your service allow me to do this?”

He’ll be entering sensitive financial information, so I believe he does care about it.
