Any downsides to Microsoft Edge VPN? Is it secure? Does it collect data?
It’s Microsoft. Yes it probably is secure. Yes it most definitely collects data!
Of course it collects data. It is Microsoft.
I think that’s still in preview and it’s collecting diagnostic data.
However it’s not actually Microsoft’s service, it’s Cloudflare’s and their servers. So I suspect it is the same as Cloudflare Warp just integrated into the Browser.
It’s a simple VPN that you can’t choose regions and will skip streaming sites like Netflix at least for now to save data, they are going to offer more plans probably integrated with 365.
They don’t need to collect your data, they already have it.
It’s microsoft, it’s probably safe and your delicious data is already being extracted by microsoft telemetry but now you would give it to them much more.
If anything is free, you are the product.
Being that it’s Microsoft, yes, they are collecting data.
Defeats half the purpose of a VPN but if you need the other half, go for it!
Blud every free thing you use on the internet collects your data
Including every VPN services/providers
Microsoft’s VPN service has a data cap without any provision for data add-ons. Additionally, the real IP address is easily exposed through X-Forwarded-For headers, compromising user privacy and security.
You could likely have answered this question by clicking on the Secure network terms link in that dialog.
Be mindful that if you are going to use any VPN, your web traffic is going to be routed through a third party server. When it comes to a free service like this, I would certainly trust Microsoft and Cloudflare to live up to their terms of service a lot more than I would some “free” VPN operator.
Edit: clarity.
Asking Microsoft about collecting data.
Anything that’s free will 99.9% collect data. You as the user will be the money object with physically having to pay.
I think it’s generally secure for everyday browsing, but might not provide the same level of security as premium VPN services. Microsoft collects data to personalize ads and improve the service.
“secure your connection from online hackers”
lol even microsoft hasn’t heard of https
Products like email and VPNs require you to trust the company that provides it. Microsoft will not provide your data to hackers, scammers or telemarketers sure, but will it use your data to provide targeted ads? or perhaps use it to improve it’s own products? or perhaps use dark patterns to see when you are most likely to buy something? Maybe … do you trust Microsoft?
If u think no vpn collects data, u’re gona have a bad day. (Eventho they said they dont)
Secure, probably. Collecting data, definitely.
Does Microsoft collect data?
The difference between this and another type of vpn is that this can’t change vpn location to bypass geoblocks for ex.
Edge collects data anyway lmao
