Advice for accidentally granting McAfee permission to my phone

Embarrassed about this post but I’m freaked out about it

Earlier while I was checking my email on my phone Ive mistaken a fake Amazon prime warning and clicked on what I think was a phishing link. It opened my Ticketmaster app and when I realized what I’ve done I panicked and started changing my passwords to my accounts and deleted credit card information.

While I was freaked out about it I installed McAfee on my phone for a scan without researching their company before hand. To get a full scan I had to grant full access to my phone for it to be done. I gave permission to do so for a split second then I turned off the permission off when I decided to do some researching. After reading other threads about McAfee I’m starting to over think about this whole situation even more. Im usually not this naive when it comes to technology and such but I guess it’s not my night.

Did I make things go from bad to worse?

You’re fine. If you’re still unsure, backup your photos and wipe the phone.

As far you didn’t install any apps you’re good to go. With only a link it’s very difficult to infect a phone, but they can get the IP and things like that. That’s it, you don’t need to worry, a lot of people click those links everyday unfortunately. I don’t think change every password was needed but better than not doing it.

About McAfee, like any other “antivirus”, are just (almost) fake apps, they wont steal your private things as far i know, but it slow down the phone and it probably steal some market info and advertisement data.

So i won’t worry too much, if your phone is clear, you’re good to go. To be sure you can use the app KillApp to close all apps of the phone. Good luck!

Thank you for the response I appreciate it!

Thank you I really appreciate the advice!

I want to add that it’s very difficult to an app in any case to steal all data. Especially for McAfee that is in PlayStore and have lot of reviews.
