18.0.1 - how to get VPN icon to show in status bar?

I upgraded from an 8 plus that was on iOS 17 something I believe and the VPN icon would show in the status bar when I was connected. Very useful. Now I can’t tell if I’m on the VPN unless I swipe down from the top right and look at the icon which is annoying. Surely there has to be a way to show my VPN connection status in the status bar right? I looked around in settings but haven’t found anything. Does anyone know?

More like there is just no space there but I get what you mean mate. It annoys me too
