I am based in India and have been a warp+ customer for over two years and have been heavily reliant on them as a VPN. Really it’s the best mix of speed and stability for me.
I just woke up today to realise that my subscription has been cancelled and there is no way to make an in-app purchase from the 1.1.1.1 app anymore. Also, the 1.1.1.1 app has been removed from the Indian app store altogether.
This seems very unannounced and frantic. Is this something that was deliberate or some error on CF’s part? Does anyone have any idea?
I think this might be due to the rules against anonymous VPNs in India and why the team accounts are working.
To my understanding VPNs with full logging are allowed under the law, but not the anonymous ones. Not sure how this may impact iCloud+ Private Browsing (if at all).
Cloudflare have addressed this before, but this isn’t them. This is the VPN being banned by the Indian government, it’s been in sway of the App Store and Play Store for a little while now
Most of the time when I’ve seen these situations, the decision was made on the Apple Store side of the equation, usually for pedantic or competitive reasons. I’d still suggest opening a ticket with CloudFlare even though they don’t have the speediest customer service. They may point blame at Apple, but CF is really the only place you have the option to start asking questions. Good luck!
You need an Apple ID that region isn’t India
Try downloading the Cloudflare One app and create a free Zero Trust account. This would be a workaround
Same, im based in india and I used to use warp sometime ago, but now it isnt on the playstore and I have no clue how to use the cloudfare one app. Im not sure how to login to it. I would love some help or an alternative way to use 1.1.1.1
Istg had enough with this country, Indian government tryina censor basic shit OMFG. Like it’s feels torture at this point.
Adding some more information here. Basically the rule in India is, you can operate a VPN as long as you maintain data related to the user, including Name, ID, IP accessing from and IP accessing to. I think the 1.1.1.1 client actually operated anonymously (because if I remember, you didn’t actually need to login to use it). iCloud+ Private browsing maintains that information (account related etc) so should be safe. Similarly why running your own Tailscale cluster and enterprise VPNs are not impacted (i.e why Cloudflare for Teams, is allowed and the Cloudflare One Agent app can be downloaded and is still available
Then why proton vpn still available?
Moreover cloudflare stores user data, I read this somewhere about 1-2 weeks back.
Nash was on us … switched back to India for this… can’t install no matter what region
So, What the benefit of VPN then if they are gonna keep our information?
Cloudflare stores use data on the Zero Tier corporate plan which is tied to accounts. The free 1.1.1.1 app did not require an account, hence removed.
I cannot answer as to why Proton VPN continues to work / has not been removed. I only gave an opinion as to why the free CloudFlare product may have been removed.
For what its worth, you can setup your own VPN and run it, and as long as you maintain a user login and a account history, you can run a VPN.
A VPN is a virtual private network. It is a legitimate tool to provide access to a network or its resources.
That is the first legitimate use of a VPN. All companies which use (including Govt. agencies) keep a log of who is accessing.
If services which offered private vpn services, kept user access logs, they are allowed. By not keeping logs, they save on their costs and have turned it into a marketing usp. Having said that, I find it hard to believe that the private vpns do not collect and sell your browsing and traffic data.
What to fill here , I am a student so how can I create a free account to use this ?
Did you follow the documentation I shared previously to create a Zero Trust team account? Once you do that, you can enter your team name there. Do note that ZT does come with a free account for up to 50 seats.
